Default A Certain Scientific Railgun

A Certain Scientific Railgun (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) | 24 episodes; 1 OVA, 1 OVA (4-min.), and 2 specials (8-min.) not confirmed | PR was never issued.
  • License announcement date: 07/02/10
  • Home video format: To be determined (DVD only?)
  • Release time frame: To be determined (2012 or 2013?)

No concrete information on this series just yet. However if A Certain Magical Index is getting released in October, a 2012 Railgun release may actually be possible. And the other key question is whether the series will be DVD only or not.

EDIT: via ANNCast with Lance @ ~70:55 (10/22/10)

- "Probably eventually..." It's just that some of the stuff (some of the titles) won't perform (just won't sell) on Blu-ray. We put out Samurai 7...sold great. We put out Heroic Age...sold great. We put Ouran...bombed on Blu-ray.

Considering how dumb the decision was to have Index DVD only(providing it was Funi's choice to begin with...), I wouldn't be surprised if Railgun is the same.

Unusual for Funimation to release Index in DVD only. Most of their releases nowadays are DVD/Blu-ray combos.

The series page on FUNimation.com went live earlier today: http://www.funimation.com/a-certain-scientific-railgun.

I would imagine they will be streaming this series soon (maybe next week; starting with the EVS members).

If Ouran bombed on BD, why the hell was there was a new print run?

anyway this is one of the shows I wanted on BD, and will not compromise on this show.

is it a new print run or a repackage of existing discs in a new package and lower price point?

edit: sides S7 & HA are totally different type of shows than O.

It was both, I think, though the first Ouran BD set is still widely (?) available. The second release (Anime Classics) apparantly had a little re-master or some tweaking or whatever, like Champloo had (also two BD releases).

The latest FUNimation newsletter mentions this for EVS members:
Quote:
A Certain Scientific Railgun
Complete Series - HD
Sub 8/21
So it looks like the series will star to stream.

So, they'll be streaming it in HD, but not selling it in HD? Or has that changed, and I've overlooked the news?

The answer is at the top post:
