The main question for Utena on BD is whether the rather severe aliasing in the DVD remaster is present. The answer is that yes, there is aliasing, but not nearly as severe as the DVD. On the plus side, little in the way of grain reduction to be seen. So, not as good as it could be, but still by far the best version that exists. A little disappointing, but pretty much what was expected.

Something else to consider buying... Do I quadruple-dip?

Admittedly, my wallet is gonna be screaming at me for the next coupla months, but it was simply not in me to resist such an event. And this after fretting and trying to stay current on information about the release since October; I only really decided to take the plunge a week ago... You know, it's funny; the first person I showed these screen comparisons to (a major consumer of JP games), is of the opinion that the BD release should further be celebrated by having the Sega Saturn game re-released, as an HD port, for the PS3. I'll go with that. ![]() |
