Default AoD Review: Fighting Spirit Vol. #7

Review

[ QUOTE ]
In Summary:
It does happen with a few series but Ippo is one of those that during it and afterwards you just feel good about the entire experience. From the fights to the personal stuff, it's all very uplifting and enjoyable even when things look the bleakest. It's a rare show that can entertain so well and provide that feeling and to provide it so consistently over seven volumes so far. With thirty five episodes of the show under our belts now this has been one of the best things I've seen in recent years and it only looks to be getting better. Very recommended.

It's like I wanna get this series because I want to see more anime like this come to these shores but at the same time it's hard to justify the purchase when the manga goes beyond it.

Decisions, decisions...

But.. will the manga ever come over here? As many know my side is this is one of the best shows I've seen in a LONG LONG time. I enjoy everything about it. I can't wait to get my copy, even though I've seen the whole series, I alwasy go back and re-watch the previous dvds I have and still enjoy it. GET IPPO!!!!

The fact that the manga continues the story beyond the anime should have no influence on whether you pick up the dvds or not. The anime series doesn't have a cliffhanger ending so you can watch the anime and never reading the manga that follows it without feeling like you are missing something. If not for my boyfriend shoving the manga into my hands a few weeks ago, I would have stopped with the anime (and not been tempted to buy all the manga that's out ). The story and characters are so good and the anime is so well done, everyone I've recommended it to has loved it, so I think the expense for the anime is well worth it.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I don't see the manga being licensed anytime soon. The longer it gets (and it is very long) the less chance of license there is. And the anime isn't exactly flying off shelves which would scare manga publishers off even more. Prince of Tennis manga for Viz hasn't been selling well either I don't think so the market for sports manga in the US seems to be pretty limited. We are lucky to even have the Ippo anime licensed I think.

The anime is one of the tighest adaptations you will find. It's a really great anime. And the boxing scenes just work better in animation. So yeah you aren't going to get the complete story, but the anime does end at a satisfying point.

Ippo kicks ass... everybody should be buying this series. Especially with each volume being packed with 5 episodes (almost 2 hours worth of entertainemt!).

I have the first five DVDs (only seen the first three thus far), and I'm freggin' loving it. Don't remember having this much fun in a fighting anime since my early fandom days with DBZ.

Well, the fact sports anime isn't doing well could very well be cause it hasn't even had a proper shot on tv! You need the medium of tv to get somewhere when youre not talking superpower or sci-fi which have a large enough following. It's a damn shame too, cause Ippo deserves more than it is getting.
Especialy as the series progresses it becomes better and better. It doesn't get old or stale at all.

I'm extremely skeptical, but I was convinced to buy the first volume (for $8 new!)... so I'll watch it when it comes in. The fact that there's 5 episodes on each DVD is great... from what I've been hearing though, the show's worth watching at least 5 episodes of...
