Anyways…I really enjoyed this cute 4koma: the story’s sweet, art’s beautiful, and Yen Press did a fabulous job with the packaging. I’d highly recommend the title to anyone looking for a fun little read.

I'll comment on the review later perhaps, since at current I don't feel like figuring out why there are no i's showing up, or trying to make sense of it without them, but I really liked this book. I wasn't sure what to expect going in, basically picking it up on looks and for the 4koma style but I loved it. Can't wait for volume 2.

I dunno that I'd lean so heavily on calling it sweet and cute however, because despite the gentler nature of Kuro's adventures-along-the-way, there is something darker and more serious about her journey underneath it all. A fact that actually what made the story for me, as opposed to say, the cute, light tone of Sunshine Sketch and Suzunari, both of which I also checked out on 4koma cred alone. Anyway, good stuff. The first Yen Press book I actually really liked.

While I'd like to suggest going by my full review and not a few quick words thrown together just for this post, as you've already mentioned, the letter "I" seems to be completely absent from the review text. Not sure why this happened, but I'll contact Chris on the matter.

But yes, a darker vein does run throughout the book, giving the whole affair something of a fairy tale quality. I'd still say it's a sweet--or maybe touching would be a better way of putting it--little book.

Well, I did make the best of trying to read your commentary on the book, but I was merely responding to what you yourself said in your post. What I got out of your review still oozed the sweet cute angle to me anyway, though you know, I'm not criticizing -- I think there were very sweet and cute moments, I just didn't get that vibe from the book overall. I liked the darker bent to it myself. You are welcome to call it cute if you so desire.

Clearly, you still found the book's material to be blacker than myself, and I can certainly understand why one might hold such a view.

Regardless of the interpretation, I'd say Kuro remains a charming piece that I think a lot of people would enjoy.

Indeed. I never inferred otherwise, if you think I did. I've already recommended this title to a couple people whose tastes certainly lean more toward "charming" than "dark" ... though I found the darker interpretation precisely to be why I found it so charming.

After finishing the first volume today, I can confirm that I would be one of those people that ended up enjoying it. As for interpretation? I'll just say that this is one of books that feels like a mixture. In either case, it's definitely interesting.

The way they've handled the people Kuro has met so far is pretty nice. The twin are definitely charming. Also Kuro herself. Well there is something quite appealing about her. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it works.

The more I see of these color pages the more I'm glad that Yen Press is kind enough to actually keep them. They're nice to look at it and they can serve as examples for lack of a better term.

Yeah, a very late reply. However I only just got volume 1 today. However I did make sure to focus on reading it. Sometime later I need to read volume volume 2.

I'll be sure and keep an eye out for this. It sounds intriguing in the way that something like Kino's Journey would be intriguing.
