I didn't see any requirements that our cast had to be "good" so I went a slightly different direction with my casting.
Re: Fudce Thanks. I'm glad to be able to communicate with outside world again.

Defense/explanation-
To tell the truth, I'm limited in my seiyuu knowledge. I don't watch fansubs, I've watched relatively few sub-only disks (the AnimEigo Macross set *is* one that I have watched), and I've watched the Japanese track on a fairly small percentage of my hybrid DVDs. So the seiyuu I chose are the ones that I do know: Hikaru Ichijo - Kappei Yamaguchi Why - He's got the perfect brash, sometimes thoughtless young kid voice. Key role - Ranma Saotome, Ranma 1/2 Lynn Minmay - Mariko Kouda Why - A great singer, and she's got a disconnected, airheaded quality to her acting that I think is perfect for Minmay. Key role - Yuri, Dirty Pair Flash Misa Hayase - Yuri Amano Why - She sounds to me like a character around Misa's age--a professional who has been on her own for a few years now, but who is still vulnerable. Key role - Yuriko Star, Irresponsible Captain Tylor Britai Kridanik - Ryuzaburo Otomo Why - He has one of the deepest and most ominous voices I've heard in anime. He sounds like Britai looks. Key role - D3, Tenchi Muyo! Exedol Folmo - Jouji Yanami Why - Yanami has a voice of experience, and age and goofiness that I think is appropriate for Exedol. Key role - Dr. Kitaguchi, Irresponsible Captain Tylor Captain Bruno J. Global - Kenichi Ogata Why - Ogata has a voice of authority, as well as a flair for comedy, which would serve him well as Global. Key role - Azaka, Tenchi Muyo! OPTIONAL CHARACTERS: Shammy Milliome - Tomoko Kawakami Vanessa Laird - Hiroko Kasahara Kim Kabirov - Noriko Hidaka Why - I couldn't pick and choose from the bridge bunnies--I had to take all three together. I picked Hiroko for Vanessa because she sounds the kindest and gentlest to me. I picked Noriko for Kim because of her genki qualities. I picked Tomoko for Shammy because she can sound obnoxious and cute simultaneously. Key roles - Snow Fairy Sugar (Tomoko), Fuu Hououji, Magic Knight Rayearth (Hiroko), Noriko Takaya, Gunbuster (Noriko) Kamjin Kravshera - George Nakata Why - Kamjin is a force of unremitting destruction and violence, and I hear that kind of tone in Nakata's voice. Key role - Alucard, Hellsing Milia Fallyna - Minami Takayama Why - She's my favorite Japanese voice actress. She'd be great in just about every role (I wavered between Claudia and Milia for her), but ultimately decided on Milia because her evolution in character from ruthless warrior to mother. Key role - Dilandau Albatou, Escaflowne Maximilian Jenius - Koichi Yamadera[/quote] Why - It was almost a coin flip between Max and Roy--either way, I wanted him to interact with Kappei Yamaguchi's character and Minami Takayama's character because of their past Rumiko Takahashi roles. Yamadera has an easygoing tone but can still be very intense, which I think is appropriate for Max. Key role - Ryoga Hibiki, Ranma 1/2

REQUIRED CHARACTERS:
Hikaru Ichijo - Daisuke Namikawa Namikawa fits the range of Hikaru's journey, from cocky civilian to confused young man in love to disillusioned fighter pilot and hero. His roles from Koyuki in BECK to Rock in Black Lagoon to even Suzuo in Dokkoida!? (and perhaps most compelling (the second) Daisuke Kusama in Giant Robo TV--not that I've heard that one, however) demonstrate the heroic, youthful--but not childish--energy required. Lynn Minmay - Junko Iwao Youthful, cute, sometimes precocious voice, with a solid singing voice in the range required for Minmay, a girl removed but not untouched by the chaos around her. It wasn't just singing: her roles as, say Serika in To Heart and Hikari in Neon Genesis Evangelion portray some of Minmay's attitude and fortitude. Misa Hayase - Kotono Mitsuishi No need to embellish here too much: the professional but haunted role of Misato in Evangelion, a tactical commander in the same position as Misa on the Macross, is an obvious connection. A bit of space opera work as Lt. Kim in Irresponsible Captain Tylor helps too. Britai Kridanik - Taro Ishida His starring villain roles of the Colonel in Akira, Duke Red in Metropolis, and Count Cagliostro in The Castle of Cagliostro is resume enough. His deep, grumbling voice fits naturally with the imposing Kridanik. Exedol Folmo - Toshio Furukawa With Furukawa it's appropriate to play on the scheming scientist, Igor-type of person Folmo is. With Toshio's just slightly lower range (but even that wouldn't be necessary, really) and his trademark frenetic style he slides into the eccentric Folmo for a more peculiarly interesting take on the character. Evidence here to most any of his roles, it doesn't matter. Captain Bruno J. Global - Ryunosuke Ohbayashi Originally playing Folmo, he did so in a less commanding tone than for which he is capable as Global, and which other roles of his show. His time as bemused commander or leader of groups of people both professional and otherwise, particularly Soun Tendo in Ranma 1/2 and most obviously as Kiichi Goto in the entirety of the Patlabor franchise endears his voice and style to the role Capt. Global. OPTIONAL CHARACTERS: Roy Focker - Keiji Fujiwara Looking for the tough, professional, but all the same easy-going and inspiring leader type with Fujiwara. Demonstrated in-between roles like Shuichi Aizawa in Death Note, Kalos in Kaleido Star, and yes, Volcott in Galaxy Angel. Claudia LaSalle - Junko Noda A perhaps smokey, charged voice for the professional yet romantic Claudia, a feeling I could get from Noda's Reki from Haibane Renmei and a smattering of other roles. Claudia's bemusement attaches itself to other Noda roles like Maho in Kare Kano, too. Milia Fallyna - Rei Sakuma Another strong, professional woman beset by strong emotion in this show... (I detect a theme.) But add in that great required sense of arrogance for Milia, aptly supplied from her work as Peorth in Ah! My Goddess, Mizuha Miyama in Magic Users Club, and a number of other roles from, heck, Shampoo to (the second) Leona Ozaki. Moruk Laplamiz - Yoshiko Sakakibara Yep, another one. But this one the older, more mature, strong-willed leader. Sir Integral Hellsing, Inspector Kinoshita (You're Under Arrest), even the Prime Minister in GitS: SAC. But there's an exasperation to Laplamiz's dealings with the likes of Kamjin that brings up an ideal connection with her defining Capt. Shinobu Nagumo in Patlabor. Maximilian Jenius - Nozomu Sasaki Something of the youthful but smooth, cocky-without-showing-it, and mysterious with Max brings to mind Sasaki's takes on the likes of Eriol from Cardcaptor Sakura and a few others. His even-toned voice has a sureness that is at home with Jenius. Hayao Kakizaki - Mitsuo Iwata Iwata has well played a space fighter pilot with good intentions but a slightly distracted manner, one Ensign Kojiro Sakai in Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Also the less-than perfect hero, from Kaneda in Akira to Tetsuyo in Outlanders. And, perhaps more fitting to Kakizaki, Iwata's played plenty more of the fun-loving and chummy clown, his Gan-chan of The Adventures of the Mini-Goddess most appropriately. (But don't just take my words for it.) Last edited by bctaris : 09-20-2008 at 09:20 PM. |

Here's my cast defense. I have no idea what the series is like, or what the characters are like short of descriptions.
![]() Hikaru Ichijo - Yuichi Nakamura I was thinking of Hikaru sharing some characteristics with Tomoya in Clannad, growing in time to be more like Ikuto in Shugo Chara. Lynn Minmay - Kana Ueda A chirpy songstress who's songs inspire? Kana Ueda completely rules the role. She's been Ringo Seto, and of course she was Yuri Fuyude in Wandaba Style. An added bonus is that Lynn Minmay can now speak in Kansai-ben. There is no logical reason for her to do this, but it would be fun. Misa Hayase - Nana Mizuki In stark contrast to the chirpy Kana Ueda, we have the second of my Nanoha Threesome. I'll pause while the yuri fans wipe their nosebleeds. Misa is much more serious than Lynn, but I can still imagine her having a soft voice. I'm thinking somewhere near Fate in Nanoha StrikerS, and if she has to raise her voice she can use some of her fantastic range. Britai Kridanik - Fumihiko Tachiki Imposing? HE IS GENDO! Exedol Folmo - Rikiya Koyama I'm thinking similar to Kuze of Ghost in the Shell, or Hakuoro of Utawarerumono for this casting. Captain Bruno J. Global - Ryotaro Okiayu If it's a wisened old war guy you are looking for, look no further than Andrew "The Coffee Guy" Waltfeld from Gundam Seed. Also see him filed under "awesome passion" as Akio in Clannad. Lynn Kaifun - Bin Shimada Protective? Confrontational? Why do I suddenly think of a combination of Zangulus and Ken Nakajima? Roy Focker - Atsushi Kisaichi Easy going but capable of passion? Try the original voice of Yuichi of Clannad (2002) as well as Asaba (Kare Kano). Claudia LaSalle - Yukari Tamura Who better to play the best friend of a character voiced by Nana Mizuki, than Yukari Tamura? I can already hear some members being excited. Shammy Milliome - Ai Nonaka She's an excitable bridge bunny? Excitable you say? Sounds like Konoka to me. Milia Fallyna - Eri Kitamura She is a proud warrior, I can see her having a lot in common with Tatyana Wisla (Last Exile). Moruk Laplamiz - Michie Tomizawa Another fierce warrior, I drew inspiration from Sumire (Sakura Wars), but also considered Linna (Bubblegum), and Rei/Mars (Sailor Moon).

Required Characters:
Hikaru Ichijo - Tomokazu Sugita Sugita was the first person I thought of to play Hikaru, just because of his excellent work as leads "harems". He did such an excellent job as Kyon (The Melancholy of Haurhi Suzumiya), Yuuichi (Kanon) and Rin (Shuffle). Sure Macross isn't a harem, but in terms of tension between two girls and a main guy he could surely do this role justice. Lynn Minmay - Maaya Sakamoto Sakamoto has an amazing singing voice and is also a prolific seiyuu. She's sang so many great songs, that I'm sure everyone knows, but some of my favorites are "No Promises Necessary" (Escaflowne), "Sea of Miracles" (Record of Lodoss War TV) and "Hemisphere" (RahXephon). Misa Hayase - Ayako Kawasumi She's my favorite seiyuu and can play any of the female roles in this show. I picked her for Misa because I believe she could play the part well. And I'd love to hear her as this lead character. Britai Kridanik - Kousei Tomita Tomita was Emperor Daibazar in GoLion, which in America was Emperor Zarkon. That's pretty imposing. Exedol Folmo - Yousuke Akimoto Not very sure about this character, but from the looks of Folmo from his picture, Akimoto should be able to be just fine as this role. He can play older male characters and should sound fine. Notable roles: The Colonel (They Are My Noble Masters), Shockwave Alberto (Giant Robo) and General (Saikano). Captain Bruno J. Global - Mugihito He could play any of the three characters I just mentioned, but I picked him for Global because of his work as Keel (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and various other shows where he was excellent. Optional Characters: Lynn Kaifun – Mitsuki Saiga I admit this is a bit of a reach, but Saiga can portray male voices and her work as Rossiu in Gurren-Lagann gave me enough faith she could play this part very well. Roy Focker – Shinichiro Miki Another prolific seiyuu who could play multiple roles, but I think he'd be a good fit as Focker. His work as Allen in Escaflowne and Kurz Weber in Full Metal Panic make this seem almost perfect. Claudia LaSalle – Ryou Hirohashi Hirohashi's work in Clannad (Kyou) was the main reason I took her, but from the description of Claudia, I think she fits up nicely with her. And some of her other roles work nicely into Claudia's personality. One note I'd like to make is, I picked Lynn, Roy and Claudia, to keep those three optional characters together. That gives us the Roy/Claudia relationship and adds the intrigue of Lynn, Minmei and Hikaru. Shammy Milliome – Yukari Fukui Fukui has one of my favorite voices and I had to draft her. Some notable roles include Nono (Gunbuster 2), Nia (Gurren-Lagann) and Natsuki (Saint October). Vanessa Laird – Miyuki Sawashiro Vanessa reminded me of Reika (Goshusho-sama Ninomiya-kun), who is serious, can stabilize the situation, but also be playful. Kim Kabirov – Megumi Ogata I admit this was about name recognition, but Ogata can easily play this role. And on my final note, I drafted for the three Bridge Bunnies to keep them together and have add more fun to my cast. |

CAST DEFENCE
Hikaru Ichijo - Tomakazu Seki Voice inspiration: Most of his roles - experience with Gundam helped but a combination of Sousuke from Full Metal Panic with the drollness of Toya Kinomoto settled this one. Lynn Minmay - Yui Horie Voice inspiration: Naru from Love Hina combined with Eri from School Rumble. Both characters use their voices in singing, and both have that bratty quality Minmay has, but also the strength to be something further. Misa Hayase - Sayaka Ohara Voice inspiration: Layla from Kaleido Star. A strong woman with the capacity to be soft and to love. Britai Kridanik - Toru Furusawa Voice inspiration: No, not Knives, but rather Nakago from Fushigi Yuugi - the cold torn war leader with a capacity to kill and vengence, but also a remorceful side when dreams can turn into despair... Exedol Folmo - Koji Ishii Voice inspiration: Most of his deep voiced roles with a marked amount of intelligence seem to hit me for Folmo, e.g. Fujisawa (El Hazard), Kido (Princess Nine), even to a minor extent Kimura (AzuDai...^^) Captain Bruno J. Global - Show Hayami Voice inspiration: Whilst he voices Jenius, I thought of his role as Yamamoto from Captain Tylor and though just how fun it would be for him to be the captain, panicing, calm... ![]() OPTIONAL CHARACTERS Roy Focker - Yuji Ueda Voice inspiration: Mainly Akito Tenkawa, with a little bit of Takeshi from Pocket Monsters mixed in - just enough pizzaz for a pilot of Roy's caliber. Milia Fallyna - Yu Kobayashi Voice inspiration: Setsuna from Negima - cool, strong, cold at times...yet the capacity of love and emotion shines through for the ones she cares for most. Maximilian Jenius - Daisuke Ono Voice inspiration: Itsuki from Haruhi. That smooth oozing charm with a bit of swarm he has with Itsuki was the idea for casting him as Jenius. Shammy Milliome - Kaori Mizuhashi Vanessa Laird - Yuki Matsuoka Kim Kabirov - Omi Minami Voice inspiration: Rosetta, Tsuruya and Mika-sensei with a dash of Ruri in for the bunnies. Excitable young girls on the bridge with energy to spare.
