And what about this, exactly? Whether or not they would be good doesn't address his question about why almost none are made. Not every fansub translator or typesetter or editor or encoder is anything more than semi-talented either, if that (though others are), but that doesn't stop them.

Fandubs take more work (a fansub can be done by one person if they have varied enough skills, a fandub would require a cast) and I'd never expect them to become all that plentiful. But I'm not sure what you were trying to say with your reply.

I think my point was lost, so let me spell it out a bit more.

There is a demand to watch anime subtitled as soon as it is aired. This is clear from the existence and consumption of fansubs. No one can argue with that.

Is there a demand for anime to be dubbed? Data showed (and probably still shows) that DVDs sell more when they include an English dub. But that doesn't prove that people prefer to actually WATCH dubs over subs, it just shows people view it as an essentially element of a purchase decision.

I propose that were there as great a demand to watch anime dubbed as subbed, then there would exist a far more healthy and vibrant fandubbing scene than there is today. Actually, although few even know it is there, there IS a very active fandubbing scene... it's just that it's filled with thousands of small, 1 shot projects that never go anywhere. The reason for this is because, simply, no one watches them. Even the really good ones. Because there is no demand for it.

In fact, MB couldn't answer any questions about Moribito's TV airing because they had nothing to do with it, which was one of the pitfalls with that license.
Actually not correct. The truth be told is that the big selling point on the series was the fact that it was pre-sold to Cartoon Network. It already had a deal in place which is why Geneon wanted to get it out and announced it at Otakon a bit prematurely. The Cartoon Network angle = bigger support from retailers. In addition the show was high quality and the fact it had a dub was nice. I would have still bidded on it but the price would have dropped by half.

As for the dub/sub thing...many shows are being dubbed now but as always it is by performance predictions. For titles like Loveless or sukisho performance was not predicted but these last few months all we have our dubs like Blade of the Immortal, Ikki Tossen and Genshkin 2. But as they say it takes one time to get a rep and hundreds of times to undo the rep. In the end all the matters are the facts. Like queens blade will get a dub and so will Ikki tossen season 3. And Loveless did so well we are actually thinking of going back to that one for a dub.

As for that statement that funni gets first look at every anime ... that is just plain like stupid, dumb, redonkulous. Come on ... yeah they passed on Bible Black ... lucky us...lol and more Ikki Tossen...please.

Ha ha, oh wow. Gotta love how Mr. Sirabella just blurts these out casually sometimes.
