I'm working through the anime version right now and this sums up my feelings on it as well.

Speaking of the anime, I'm kind of mixed on it to be honest. Still with the manga being 17 volumes, I can imagine there's a lot that wasn't covered in the anime.

I've half-considered the manga, but the length of it sort of puts me off. As you start to ask the question "Will the destination make the long journey worth it?".

Yes, I do realize some of the series I've started might end up being that long, but there's a difference between already being at volume X vs having X number of volumes to get.
