I'm kind of surprised it did so little. I would have thought Up would be more popular in Japan, given Russell. But I suppose it is only the first week. Also, I don't think this includes BD sales.

For whatever reason, Japan seems to like name changes when it comes to Western movies. Not sure why though. To me, at least, "Carl Jiisan no Sora Tobu Ie" isn't nearly as good as a title as "Up." But I'm also not Japanese.

Just like Hollywood is allergic to movie titles longer than 3 words, Japan is allergic to titles that don't form complete sentences (or clauses).

Even "Seinfeld" was renamed "Tonari no Sainferudo" (The neighbor Seinfeld)

Yeah. I don't get it. I can think of several anime/other media that are only one word. Kanon, Air, Clannad, Berserk, iDOLM@STER... But I suppose they're not movies.

I've almost considered getting Vol. 1 of Working!! and just thinking of it as an unusually expensive OP/ED, which I have a feeling is what a lot of other people did.

Decided not to, though. If there were also an artbox, I could probably justify it for that + CD but if I'm not going to collect the rest of the show I'd feel a bit silly paying 2300 or whatever yen + S&H for an OP/ED CD and only owning one episode of the show. Especially because the ED hasn't grabbed me so it's really just for the OP.

And is this a DVD list from a different original source? Results went past 30th for DVD in the previous list. I do hope we get numbers for the many shows that did somewhat less than that bottom edge of 3600 DVDs but still some noteworthy amount. Especially something like Hidamari, that splits like 60/40 in favor of BD, that 40 DVD is still important.

Anyway, not much else to talk about from a short list. Drrr is strong as expected. Todoke continues to do well, must be the power of a popular manga. 5 is the last volume I'm getting though.

I'd been wondering what the heck that was in the Amazon bestseller lists.

Then again, I had no idea what Up! is either, beyond hearing the title once or twice... ::checks:: Ah, right, Disney/Pixar stuff. That would explain why I had no idea. ::shrugs::

Wall-e wasn't changed, though. I suspect their main reason for changing "Up" is because appu in katakana usually refers to the illegal uploading of copyrighted material.

Well, I'm just saying that when Japan changes names of media, they ALWAYS make them longer. And when hollywood changes names of things, they ALWAYS make them shorter.

*note - Where "Always" means "most of the time"

It's not some hard or fast rule, but the trend is definitely there when it comes to localization practices. "Ponyo" is a good example.

I will confess that the thought crossed my mind as well. There was also the idea of thinking "Well, at least I'll have one DVD from the series" and such.

In my case if I were to have gone for it, it would have definitely been more for the OP than the ED as well. As for collecting the entire series. It's not that I don't have a desire to. As I do like the series so far.

It's more that I'm still in a position of mostly waiting for series to get licensed for R1. Plus, I'm sort of hoping that Aniplex will make Working!! one of the series they release in the U.S. At the very least shipping could potentially be cheaper.

That and if I was actually crazy enough to import an R2 series, there are shows of much higher priority for me to get. All of which I've seen more episodes of than Working!! So I have a better idea as to whether or not they fall apart.

[No link to full DVD100/BD50 list, it's already below]

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-5141.html

Okay, I really don't understand the time periods these cover anymore... a 4/26 list covering 4/12-4/18, posting on 4/30, even though we've already seen the 4/19-4/25 list? Well, I guess it was only a preliminary Can anyone explain the schedule on which these come out and such? For example, what was the actual date range from this list we have under the 4/19 subthread? Was that list covering 4/05-4/11? It was posted 4/16 so I'm guessing so.

Not a lot to say actually, except that I guess I was fooled by Higashi no Eden movie 1 being on the Amazon bestseller lists so much and thought it was going to totally blow past 10k. It's at about 8.5k which is hardly bad, though.

The most amusing thing is all seven volumes of K-ON! making the list, but of course this is a middle of the month list so you can move 156-236 copies and make the rankings. =P Same for all 5 volumes of Bakemonogatari that are out, in the same range.

Kiddy Girl-and being on the list reminded me that we haven't seen any numbers for its DVD release, which means it hasn't been charting at all... particularly damning is the Vol. 1 BD only taking in 700-some, and that apparently being (due to mid-month slowdown) the first month it's charted. Poor show. It was flawed but deserves better. I also forgot what a bizarre release schedule this show is getting. Vol. 1 BD only out now, but 7 DVDs are out.

Just for the heck of it, the Bake and Railgun lists someone posted in the thread:

Code:
○化物語 (BD+DVD)【全6巻】
