Default Re: 2010 04/26~05/02 Full list

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-5229.html

As Draneor linked, that's the most recent full weekly list, though it's for this time period as far as I can tell. Has the 4433 Working!! sold in its second week.

Heh, almost identical to the 4436 Clannad BD box did. Which is pretty damn impressive for that price. The list of BD box sales is pretty cool. But wow, Darker than Black is way, way out there in the lead.

Railgun at 14737/6495 for 21,232 for Vol. 4 first week sales. First volume topped out around 27k before it stopped making the lists, and I figure Vol. 4 will add a couple k more. The others have added at least 4k after the first week. It should end up averaging over 20k. Go go Railgun!
Code:
It's odd that it's the series' best first week sales yet. What the heck?

Sora no Woto adds another 232 BDs, so at least Vol. 2 gets above 3k, for 3126.

And Totoro slowly edges toward a million DVDs.

Default Re: 05/03~05/09 Full list

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-5237.html

Okay, I believe these should be the actual 05/03~05/09 full list sales. It includes Nodame Cantabile Finale Vol. 2 which came out 5/07, for example. And the third week Working!! sales.

The BD lists are amusing again. All 7 volumes of K-ON! make the list, as do 3 volumes of Bake. Each adding ~200.

Clannad BD Box adds another 524, taking it to 4,960! That moves Clannad to 5th overall for BD boxsets in units and pushes it over the 300m yen sales mark, though it's still in 2nd, about 40m yen behind DtB. It would need to add another 600-700 to top it, which seems unlikely (but not impossible) at this point. Or if it does, we won't know because it won't still be ranking. Though it could show up for a couple hundred more in the 5/10-5/16 lists. Possibly even 5/17-5/23 but sales should be low enough and competition high enough by that late in the month that it probably wont chart.

I wonder if After Story will sell as well? The DVD release sold less than the first season's DVD release so it probably won't be higher.

Updated lists for total Bake/K-ON! sales. Totals bolded.

[Update - Link to full DVD100/BD50 list here]

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-5256.html

The usual preliminary DVD list. Full BD/DVD sales for this period should come out in a week or two.

Working!! is still on the DVD list. 2,122 more for 23,953! It's only about 1k short of Drrr's first volume at this point. Holy crap. Obviously it won't last at this level but that's still impressive.

I almost said I was worried about Katanagatari only pushing 2,801 first week for Vol. 2, but duh, this is DVD only and its sales are overwhelmingly BD. In fact 2,801 is slightly more than Vol. 1's sales. Well, episode two was a lot better. I bet episode 4 sees a bit of a spike... if there's any justice in this world!

Seitokai no Ichizon's last volume (6) clocked in at 3,540 first week. That's dropped from a high of 5,320 for Vol. 1 (it eventually did 7,632) but it looks like it'll have ended up averaging a bit under 6k/vol. Not bad, because I seriously doubt it was a high budget show. Certainly an awesome show though.

Anyway, those are the ones I'm interested in. Each episode of Working!! tempts me more to buy it, but I'm spending enough on a DVD series with Drrr! as it is, so no BD no sale. Koihime is likely holding onto third place this season, unless Kaichou wa Maid-sama can upend it.

Updated list, including BD sales. Bakemonogatari and K-On! continue to sell (100-200) copies per week.

Further down, the TV anime DVD/BD ranking shows how amazing the sales of Bakemonogatari are--only Evangelion sold more. Heh. All of the titles, except Full Metal Alchemist, Initial D, and GTS, also happen to be fujoshi-fodder, mecha, moe, or a combination of the three.

Heh, Katanagatari Vol. 2 sold 1 copy more than Vol. 1. That's consistency.

I'd say Ghost in the Shell probably fit on the list of exceptions too, but I'm not classing it as mecha. But yeah, not much else, though admittedly "fujoshi, mecha, moe" is a really broad group.

Translated list for anyone who cares:
*1 119,046 - Neon Genesis Evangelion
*2 *76,888 - Bakemonogatari (Vols. 1-5)
*3 *69,247 - Gundam SEED Destiny
*4 *58,589 - Gundam SEED
*5 *47,672 - Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
*6 *46,147 - Macross F
*7 *42,690 - Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch R2
*8 *42,632 - K-ON!
*9 *41,038 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (2k6)
10 *38,514 - Gundam 00
11 *36,519 - Fullmetal Alchemist
12 *36,318 - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society [*]
13 *34,601 - Gundam 00 Second Season
14 *30,609 - Kidou Senkan Nadesico
15 *29,146 - Lucky Star
16 *28,537 - Initial D Fourth Stage
17 *28,466 - Gundam Wing
18 *26,337 - Hetalia Axis Powers (S1)
19 *26,047 - Fate/stay night
20 *25,644 - Azumanga Daiou
21 *25,048 - To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (Vols. 1-4)
22 *24,808 - CLANNAD (S1)
23 *24,346 - AIR
24 *23,960 - Love Hina
25 *22,829 - Durarara!! (Vols. 1-3)
26 *22,591 - Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
27 *20,052 - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

[*] Hmm, why would SSS be listed here? It's only 3 episodes, hardly a TV anime. Maybe it's just being included with SAC itself? I'd have to go check to see what the SAC TV series did.

Only 3 shows from this list are from before 2000 (Eva, Nadesico, Wing) so I'm thinking some might be missing. Though maybe not if we're counting first release individual volumes only, which this list is. I know I've seen 80k for 1st Gundam but I don't know that it necessarily did that much back in the 70's. Either way like half the list is from the last few years.

K-ON! has undoubtedly passed Code Geass R2 by now to take 7th. As for the unfinished series, Durarara!! may drop below 20k by the end. Going by its monthly declines thus far, Railgun will presumably slide behind Clannad, Air, and maybe Love Hina but will easily stay on the 20k list.

Bake, on the other hand, will probably just increase its average with Vol. 6. Provided it ever actually materializes.

Of course, any time you get down to a matter of a few hundred volumes separating two series selling tens of thousands of copies, it's entirely within the margin of error. A couple hundred copies over multiple weeks could go unreported if they don't fit in the top 'x' being reported. Like, Bake has obviously been selling 100+ copies every single week for some time now but those won't get reported in heavy release weeks. That said it's fun to look at the rankings anyway.

Default Some (vague) trends by gender/age

Found at Yunakichi as usual. Note, I have no idea how comprehensive or reliable the data on this site is.

On this 7netshopping site you can rearrange their rankings by age and gender, which results in some interesting stuff in terms of what TV series are selling (following links are over the last 4 weeks).

All ages, Male nets you K-ON!!, then Angel Beats! and Working!!. Guys like exclamation points.
All ages, Female is totally different. A whole lot of Gintama, Durarara!! and One Piece. Hakuouki cracks the top 10 and other volumes place well, and Kimi ni Todoke makes a mark.

In the ladies' list you don't get a whiff of Working!! until #53, Angel Beats! until #89 and K-ON!! at #129. For the guys, none of the girls' series pop up besides some One Piece in the 20's and two vols of Todoke near #50. Durarara!! doesn't show until #86. Clearly girls like shounen, but not male otaku anime.

Eva and Vesperia do well in both as far as movies/OVAs go.

Age-wise, Angel Beats! is leading with teen males, while K-ON!! dominates the 20-something males. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the all ages/all genders list most closely matches the 20-something males, but series like Durarara and Gintama show up. Also: only old people buy Winter Sonata apparently, lol.

To reiterate, I have no clue how reliable these rankings are but I find the broad trends pretty interesting to check out.

This is a placeholder for 5/17-5/23 because I haven't seen any numbers from this period yet; however prelim 5/24-5/30 DVD numbers are out so I'll be commenting on that. Just trying to keep the lists in chronological order.

Edit: Turns out no real anime made the top 100 this week (threshold 1,676), so there was no real data. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=211753

[Update - Link to full DVD100/BD50 list here]

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-5358.html

Preliminary DVD-only numbers for the week of 5/24 to 5/30.

The obvious thing to look at here is... 283k for Eva 2.22 DVD. And since BD will have sold even more, the second movie will in one week have blasted by the total to date sales of the first movie (which is a little over 500k in all versions). Daaamn. I know King Records received about 800k preorders (I assume that means orders from retailers) and I wouldn't be surprised to see that all sell through. I know I just picked up 1.11 and 2.22 BDs myself...

1.11 added another 4k DVDs too.

Hetalia World Series, which is DVD only, did 14k so it looks like that show is keeping up its market presence in the new season.

The usual beyond that.
