Kōdansha International released a bilingual edition of Sazae-san. http://www.amazon.com/Wonderful-Worl...dp/4770020759/ Kōdansha International also released a bilingual edition of OL Shinkaron, which is a 4-koma manga by Akizuki Risu. http://www.amazon.com/Survival-Offic...dp/4770023901/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OL_Shinkaron It might not be a bad thing to add also these bilingual edition 4-koma manga to the list. |

A recent tendency in 'animé-isation' of 4-koma manga is that 4-koma manga which are chosen are mainly so-called moé 4-koma. So, in view of it, now the chances may not be very high that a non-moé 4-koma will be made into an anime. In a 'Which 4-koma manga do you want to see as an anime?' thread of 2ch, people often mentioned also non-moé 4-koma, non-otacky 4 koma, 'family' 4-koma, 'fundamentalist' 4-koma, 'old school' 4-koma, and the like, though. (OL Shinkaron and Kashimashi House, too, were mentioned.) |

Well, I would really like to know what are your Top 10 4-koma manga that have been released in North America? If you want to add some comment they are welcome!

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class (1), S.S. Astro (2), Shoulder A Coffin Kuro (3), Suzunari (4), Sunshine Sketch (5), Ichiroh (6), Azumanga Daioh (7), Tori Koro (8), Lucky Star (9), and.... I guess if I were to count K-ON!, I'd have 10. Sure, it's not out yet, but I'm familiar enough with it anyway. So that would kind of make my top ten, the ten series I've been reading by default. Which feels kind of silly. I can say from that list that GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class is the high favorite. Sunshine Sketch is also quite powerful. If certain series were licensed and thus could be counted, they'd likely force me to make room for them. Series like Kill Me Baby, Gu-Pan, and obviously Sketchbook for example. Either way this tells me, I ned to expand my 4-Koma library a bit more. Well, I do plan to get the Haruhi-chan release eventually and may go for Cosplay Koromo-chan if possible.

@ Suwako Moriya: Since it's the only 4-koma manga that I'm undecided on, why Dojin Work does not interested you?

First, I'm not really sure what the situation is with Media Blasters when it comes to manga. In other words, how confident can I be that they'll release the remaining volumes of the series? For the record, one site mentions the series is completed at six volumes. Media Blasters has released four volumes. So they're close to the end. One just has to hope that five and six will get dates. Second, it's a case of being distracted. Ie it seems like I'm always putting off X in order to get Y. With some things stuck in the Y category longer than others.

It's a shame about Doujin Work, because it does look dropped. I've been buying it from the beginning. It was a very amusing series from the start, and steadily got even better as it went on. Volume 4 was just incredibly good. If Media Blasters actually does move to finish it, I heartily recommend the series.

Well, I've only read Sunshine Sketch and Lucky Star, but I'd give Sunshine a 9/10 and Lucky Star a 8/10. In terms of what I plan to eventually pick up, I'm interested in K-On!, Azumanga Daioh, Shoulder A Coffin Kuro, S.S. Astro, and GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class.
And getting mildly OT, is the Sunshine Sketch anime (Hidamari) different from the manga? Because I saw one episode on Demand before I started buying the manga, and it dealt with Yuno realizing she forgot to do her homework and trying to finish it, and all the characters already know each other. The beginning of the manga was nothing like this, so it confused me. I'm still definitely ordering at least Season 1 (maybe 2 if I can afford it) on the next Sentai sale. Thanks!
