Railgun season 1 ended on the day before the Sisters arc begins. One of Saten's urban legends jumpstarts the whole thing, so she'll at least be a focus in the first episode. Original anime material hinges on whether there will be a timeskip in the manga or not. Like how the two weeks between Level Upper and Sisters gave them wiggle room to do Big Spider and Poltergeist. It should be interesting to see if something similar happens with next week's manga chapter.

You/we weren't talking about guaranteed success. Your point was about potential success, and that Railgun didn't have any had it not been made by J.C.Staff. As much as I love J.C.Staff, definitely one of my top five favorite studios and maybe even number one, this is an outrageous statement for anyone who has even casually glanced at the original material and the fanbase around the franchise.

I think he's referring more to the doubling of sales from Index to Railgun, and attributing that success to Tatsuyuki Nagai's direction (as compared to Hiroshi Nishikiori's handling of Index, which produced a solid hit but not a chart topper). His argument is that Railgun would've remained an Index-level success had Nagai not dazzled viewers with some smart project planning and superior storyboarding. Ditto for Toradora!, which was directed by the same person.

The stark difference in commercial and critical response has been enough for the Japanese to take notice, so there's definitely merit to the argument. Nevertheless, I agree that it's difficult to peg just how much of a difference Nagai's involvement made.

I have no arguement against the fact that the show's success came in part from the way it was adapted. Arguing against this would be total madness. What you have done is presumably guessed at what he said initially from comments on the last couple of pages rather than going back and reading what he said to spark the debate in the first place:

"this team has a history of taking series that normally would have no chance of selling over 10k and making them into hits (i.e. Railgun and Toradora)."

No-one is arguing that Railgun was always a gold-plated guaranteed 20k+ seller. Just that it has obvious qualities that could be turned into a big success if adapted correctly.

What? I never said that, my entire argument was that Railgun's potential success wouldn't have been higher than Index's without Nagai, not that it wouldn't have sold at all. I specifically said it shouldn't have been a 10k+ seller, not that it would have completely bombed. TJR explained pretty much everything I have to say in response to this post.

That aside, I find this both helpful and amusing.

Also, it turns out T&B has 9 volumes, so it'll be 25 episode 2-cour. Sure are a good amount of multi-cour anime this season, and they're all selling well for the most part so far. Hopefully this leads to more being made than have been in the last two years.

Some monthly updates:
http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi.../1293278942/81

This is going to be quite useful if it get it every month; all of the below could be updated based on it. The anime DVD list is sadly only a top 15, but the BD list is a top 50, so it went all the way down to give us some info on Panty&Stocking.

Basara 2 v7 DVD, +303 to 11,110.
Ikamusume v3 BD, +229 to 9,183.
Index II v2 BD, +180 to 13,192, total 18,116.
K-ON!! v8 BD, +219 to 32,073, total 36,424.
KamiNomi v3 BD, +301 to 2,588.
Kimi ni Todoke S2 v1 DVD + 767 to 7,475.
OreImo v3 BD, +644 to 18,864, total 23,865.
Panty&Stocking v4 BD, +252 to 1,924.

This is probably the one that impresses me most. Still think it'll fall short of 10k DVDs but it'd be nice if it gets a final bump in the last week.

And yeah, with Vol. 6 up, there must be a significant number of people who are finally ordering the whole series at once.
