i dunno, i liked Last Exile a lot but i just couldn't get excited after that trailer. maybe it's cuz of the cute girls running around. they should've went for a prequel instead.
it seemed that way to me, but i think it's just that everything seems more colorful and cheery in that trailer than the darker original

Now this is something I am excited about! I remember there was an old thread on here some years ago where all of the implications in the original Last EXILE were discussed: Prester is a sham, it is a space ship, the Guild are genetically engineered beings who are the mechanics of the ship, etc. It would be interesting to see them dig more into this.
It would be the first time my collection has enlarged in some time... |

Interesting news indeed. I'll have to make a mental note to check out the premiere.

Plus, I always see folks laud the quality of the animation in Last Exile, but really guys, go back and watch the show and refresh your memories. The 2D character animation in the show really isn't that great, except for in episodes 1, 2, and a few others. Chrono Crusade and Peacemaker, two of Last Exile's contemporaries, also from Gonzo, feature much better character animation. Now, if you want to talk about the 3D elements in Last Exile, those are much more consistent, and remarkably good considering the TV budget and compressed production schedule, but folks tend to never mention Gonzo's CG work except to point out how badly it tends to be composited with the rest of the animation on screen, so it's ironic if folks are kind of conflating the decent CG with the not-bad-but-not-great 2D animation in their minds when thinking of Last Exile as being a well-animated show. ![]()

Looking at the cast list at the end of that short promo, it does look like some sort of prequel since the only characters I recognize are Tatiana, Alister and Dio. Unless of course Dio survived at the end of the original...

There's always that final R2J cover, after all...

Hmmm, official site announced that they're re-broadcasting Last Exile on AT-X from the 19th of July (looks like 2 episodes weekly). So an October start date for the 'sequel'?
