This is getting a little far off the normal topic but I found it kind of interesting. As far as I can tell, it's a list of doujins at Toranoana, listing 1) how many are ero, 2) how many total, and 3) how many are targeted at women, however that's supposed to be defined. This is for 2010. Honestly I have no idea how accurate it is, but a quick google shows similarly formatted lists for 2008 and 2009. All / # 18+ / % 18+ / # aimed at women / % aimed at women / Title 5806 1068 18% ---- ---% Touhou Project 4172 1677 40% 4131 *99% Hetalia 1998 1130 57% 1973 *99% Durarara!! 1361 *417 31% 1347 *99% Inazuma Eleven 1003 *503 50% *991 *99% Sengoku Basara *926 *371 40% *922 *99% Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn! *866 *371 43% *797 *92% Tales series *865 *236 27% *864 100% Rakudai Ninja Rantarou *775 **84 11% *195 *25% Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid) *747 *553 74% *726 *97% Code Geass *620 *259 42% ---- ---% Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha *617 *373 61% ---- ---% K-ON! *489 *318 65% ---- ---% Precure *459 *329 72% *459 100% Lucky Dog 1 *451 *156 35% *448 *99% Hakuouki *428 *142 33% ---- ---% The Idolmaster *372 *199 54% *361 *97% Gintama *343 *146 43% *212 *62% Final Fantasy *334 *177 53% *318 *95% Gundam 00 *307 *154 50% *293 *95% Summer Wars *263 *141 54% *110 *42% Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu *256 *117 48% *113 *44% Angel Beats! *220 **43 20% *218 *99% Tokimeki Memorial GS *215 *150 70% ---- ---% To Aru Majutsu no Index *208 **90 43% *208 100% Kuroko no Baske(tball) *201 *159 79% ---- ---% Love Plus *197 **92 47% *153 *78% Persona *189 *169 89% ---- ---% Dragon Quest *174 *142 82% ---- ---% Evangelion *168 *151 90% ---- ---% Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai *164 **62 38% ---- ---% Ragnarok Online *162 **84 52% *147 *91% Gundam SEED *159 **71 45% ---- **0% Strike Witches *149 **60 40% *137 *92% Yuugiou *147 **49 33% *147 100% Sangoku Koisenki *146 **45 31% *146 100% Tennis no Ouji-sama *146 **32 22% *146 100% Kin'iro no Corda *145 **82 57% *127 *88% Hagane no Renkinjutsushi *144 **34 24% ---- ---% Umineko no Naku Koro ni *138 **98 71% ---- ---% Bakemonogatari *136 *108 79% ---- ---% Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu *132 **82 62% **95 *72% One Piece *122 **77 63% **91 *75% Nurarihyon no Mago *105 **38 36% *103 *98% Sengoku Musou *104 **49 47% ---- ---% Fate/Stay Night *103 **58 56% *103 100% Ookiku Furikabutte So... beyond Touhou and Vocaloid, women totally dominate the top doujin scene properties. Well, at least at Toranoana in 2010, and according to this post which I can't verify. Top 10 most ero properties were: *168 *151 90% ---- ---% Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai *189 *169 89% ---- ---% Dragon Quest *174 *142 82% ---- ---% Evangelion *201 *159 79% ---- ---% Love Plus *136 *108 79% ---- ---% Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu *747 *553 74% *726 *97% Code Geass *459 *329 72% *459 100% Lucky Dog 1 *138 **98 71% ---- ---% Bakemonogatari *215 *150 70% ---- ---% To Aru Majutsu no Index *489 *318 65% ---- ---% Precure Somehow I'm guessing it's not Precure's normal target audience buying those. =D And oh OreImo, you so naughty.

^ Not surprising, I imagine the only doujin most males read are hentai; other than that, only women really like reading an original story by someone other than the author. Well, not "only", but a lot more women than men do anyway.

That's a special edition of Nichijou volume 1 that includes an extra set of cards. To distinguish between stores Kadokawa chose different hiragana and Amazon apparently got ka. As for why it's popular, I would suppose the 500 limited production would be a main cause. They probably didn't have enough card sets to meet their pre-orders and had to make a separate item of it.

As for Madoka v1, yes I'd imagine each volume sees a small bump. I'm sure it was the same for Bake and K-ON!

It would be pretty interesting to see this sell out and then compare to total sales. If Amazon accounts for 500+ of like 2,500 or however many BDs this sells, that'd be quite a big chunk. Oh, and gotta love that one final "fuck you" thrown in there by the discount only being 24%, so you have to pay a little extra for it.

The Amazon special edition version of Shoushitsu was only 20% off retail price, which made it 1500 yen just for the steelbook so it's not just this time they've required extra for a bonus from Kadokawa.

So does Madoka 1-2. Obviously, this is Arietty's week, although I have no idea if these sales meet expectations or not. Comments on Yaraon are implying definitely not but I don't know if it's serious. Dead slow otherwise. Next week will be utterly ridiculous however... the 30/10 lists won't even be enough at all. Too bad they didn't stick some of them in this week. Spring update: Tiger&Bunny v1 adds 599 RE BDs. Total 23,975. That's probably pretty much all the REs that exist... Winter update: Kimi ni Todoke 2 v4 adds 668 for 6,491. Madoka Magica v2 - adds 627 BDs but is still ever so short of 70k. 69,969. Past seasons: SoreMachi v6 starts at 1,558/563 for 2,121, the first time the DVDs have ranked in the top 100, although v5 could be estimated at about 550. I doubt this will rank again so the final average is 2,169. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Vol 1: 74,718 -> 75,182 (*8 wk) - adds 464 BDs. Vol 2: 69,301 -> 69,928 (*4 wk) - adds 627 BDs. Vol 3: **,*** (** wk) Vol 4: **,*** (** wk) Vol 5: **,*** (** wk) Vol 6: **,*** (** wk) OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc: Arietty does 36,667/127,365. I guess if there's still one thing selling overwhelmingly on DVD, it's gonna be Ghibli. Total 164,032 first week. I guess the LE and RE on Amazon were counted as the same SKU, otherwise they would have both easily ranked. AsoIku OVA does 2,339/812 for 3,151. ***,*28位(***,239 pt) [*,133予約] 2011年06月22日 『よんでますよ、アザゼルさん。』DVD VOL.1 This is incredible...it might actually end up outselling AoEx... Also, I find it funny that the Nichijou card game skew will end up with nearly the same amount of points as the normal skew had by the time they go on sale on Thursday. I guess everyone who purchased the original BDs really did cancel their orders and bought the card SKU instead. |

Note, I just took whatever eggplant had marked "Movie", didn't really second-guess it. Pretty insane year for anime movies. I doubt there's ever been 7 (8 with Frontier) over 100k in one year.
