NicoNico's English Site Lists 6 Summer Anime Titles

posted on 2011-07-01 19:30 EDT

Dantalian, Kuro-Usagi, R-15, Twin Angel listed along with Blood-C, Uta no Prince-sama

NicoNico.com, the international English version of the popular Japanese video website Nico Nico Douga, is now listing six titles on its Channels website as "Anime title for this Summer." The titles include Twin Angel: Twinkle Paradise (Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel), A Dark Rabbit has Seven Lives (Itsuka Tenma no Kuro-Usagi), R-15, and The Mystic Archives of Dantalian (Dantalian no Shoka), and each has a date that is within one day of its Japanese broadcast premiere.

NicoNico had announced that it will stream two of the listed anime, Blood-C and Uta no Prince Sama (Uta no Prince-sama— Maji Love 1000%) outside Japan. NicoNico will stream Blood-C and Uta no Prince Sama with English subtitles right after the first broadcast of each episode in Japan. Nico Nico is also streaming live and holding panels at both Anime Expo in Los Angeles and Japan Expo in Paris this weekend.

NicoNico has not yet responded to ANN's request for comment on this page with six titles.

Wow, it seems like this has suddenly become the next Crunchyroll. I guess by the end of the weekend we'll have a pretty good idea of whether or not they'll all be exclusive. Anyway, Dantalian no Shoka is definitely the stand-out to me from that list. I was really expecting Crunchyroll to get that. Anyway, I'll probably be checking all of them out to see if I want to stick with them.

R-15 and Dark Rabbit are Kadokawa titles, and Dantalian is a seeming TV Tokyo title. If Nico gets them exclusively and nothing for Crunchyroll, it would kind of feel like they've had the rug pulled out from under them. That's just speculation given the usual patterns, though. I'll check all of these titles out whether Crunchy gets them too or not.

Yeah, that's why I figured Dantalian would go to Crunchyroll, and now knowing the others are Kadokawa, I'm sure Crunchyroll will get at least some. But if everything ends up on Crunchyroll as well, I don't see there being much of a point in this at all.

Kadokawa titles seems to be easy to spot since PV's tend to turn up on their YouTube channel. And just as I pull that up, there's a Twin Angel PV playing, and Dantalian is in the videos too. Guess these are all Kadokawa titles, actually.

They've taken the page down.
While you can't register for a premium account on niconico.com yet, if you have a premium account on nicovideo.jp it shows as premium on the US site too (you can use the same login on both)

I see. I had actually first thought Dantalian would be Kadokawa, since the original light novel series was published by Kadokawa Shoten, but I don't really know if that necessarily transfers over for anime adaptations. I was hoping it would get s Crunchyroll simulcast based on that, then when I heard it might be TV Tokyo, I had the same hopes based on that. Anyway, it looks like Kadokawa have good relationships with more than just Crunchyroll now.

And the page is now back up, along with the first episode of Uta No Prince Sama.
