In Summary:
SKET Dances has an opening episode that does all it needs to do but doesn't really push strongly in any particular direction. The forming of the group happens prior to the start of the series but the arrival of Teppei gives it some additional blood and changes the dynamic a bit, though there is a mild twist along the way that cements their relationship in a way you wouldn't normally get.. What the show does here is pretty good, but it's not a standout piece that demands you come back. There's obviously a following for the property considering that it's still ongoing, has nearly twenty volumes out and lots of readers, so there's going to be appeal there. I'm curious to see what it is, but it's a show that's going to have to work at it to win me over out of the fairly average piece we got to start with.

Thanks for this review; I was wondering whether or not to bother watching it bc from what I heard it is Gintama like but not as near as funny.

I personally like Sket Dance, and can't stand Gintama. But, I think most people probably do equate it as a lesser Gintama set in school

From what someone posted, the author of the sket dance manga was working as staff for the gintama mangaka before getting his own manga. Or something. dunno how true that is though.
