Wow, Penguindrum hit #1 for three hours but was knocked down by UC4. If UC is the only thing that could keep Penguindrum from #1, then that's amazing. It's doing even better than Madoka was by its third ep.

If it can stay ahead of Unicorn and Macross DVD than it bodes well to massive sales.. UC on DVD does like 60k and MF Movie 1 did 36k.

So annoying that MF BD won't be listed with them and that Idolmasters real selling power won't be known due to the bundle.

I'm not sure how much of an effect the bundle will have on sales but I have a feeling that iM@Z would have sold somewhere around 50k regardless. I read a post on the 2ch sales thread predicting 20k for the normal BD and DVD and 40k for the game bundle, making for 60k in all. I think that's about right, though the normal version could easily end up doing more than 20k.

As for Penguindrum, I'm amazed that it's this high already and the crazy stuff hasn't even started. Definitely has a chance to reach Madoka...

I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself, don't get me wrong it's obviously a well received show but I'm sure Ikuhara has heaps of devoted fans who've just went straight for the preorder.. think of it like how Steins;Gate was so high before it aired due to the VN fans preordering. It's fallen behind Unicorn #4 BD, Unicorn #4 DVD, MF Movie 2 DVD atm.. but if those 3 weren't solicited than it would've been #1 hands down, quite a feat!

Besides I'm curious who is the main audience for Penguindrum? Feels like something that will appeal to a shoujo crowd as well as typical otaku.

Yeah I know, but I'm going off the assumption that when the crazy stuff starts happening (things that were in the spoilers from the novel which covered the first 9 eps) then pre-orders will explode even more. Maybe not Madoka, but 50k is definitely a possibility.

And Pingdrum seems like a series that can appeal to every type of anime demographic.

This is happening again.

***,*46位 (---,--- pt) [-,---予約] 2011年04月27日 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ 1 【完全生産限定版】 [Blu-ray] ※更新停止

Was there another livestream? If not, then sales really do rise with the release of each new volume for some reason.

I'm going to say 7k - 8k BD's, like you, but I also do not think it's DVD's will chart at all, similar to Steins;Gate but just not as high of a total number of units sold.

8548 it is. Will pass 9k on second week, but without DVDs ranking it will not be another 10k series.

Boy that's a lot of kids'/family movies coming out this week. Oh, and happy 500th week ranking to Totoro, I suppose. No Madoka anywhere, for the first time since the first week of the first volume. C'mon Sayaka, you're dragging everyone down!

Spring update:
Hanasaku Iroha v1 does 8,548 BDs and about 710 DVDs for approximately 9,258 BDs, DVDs don't rank. About where we expected I guess. Between this and Steins I think we have a new normal starting up or otaku series. DVD is becoming increasingly obsolete for many of them. I think this ought to hit 10k before it stops ranking but likely not average above 10k.

Tiger&Bunny v3 does 23417/1580 for 25,051. Almost 1.5k better first week than Vol. 2. Wonder if it'll see the same 3k+ 2nd week on BDs. Vol. 2 also charted and tops 30k total now (30,546)

Sekiichi Hatsukoi v2 does 3,796.

Nichijou v2 does 2,197 BDs and about 690 DVDs for approximately 2,887. Big drop on the DVDs, more normal drop on the BDs.

AnoHana adds 605 BDs for 44,711.

Winter update:
Starry Sky v6 does 2,232. Fairly large drop from 5 to 6 compared to previous volumes.

Gosick v4 does 1,737 BDs and about 525 DVDs for approximately 2,262.

Zombie v5 does 1,648 BDs and about 750 DVDs, for approximately 2,398. Pretty big drop in both formats, while it had been steady up until now. BDs went from 1947 to 1648 and DVDs from 912 to about 750. Wonder why?

Past seasons:
SWR Inspector v2 does 799, but of course this is the DVD-only version and the BD comes bundled with a game so we won't have real data on this.

Tegami Bachi Reverse is still plugging along, 1,126 in v8. One left.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica:
Vol 1: 78,237 (12 wk)
Vol 2: 72,507 (*8 wk)
Vol 3: 65,838 (*3 wk)
Vol 4: **,*** (** wk)
Vol 5: **,*** (** wk)
Vol 6: **,*** (** wk)
Current average: 72,194

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai:
Vol 1: 44,106 -> 44,711(*4 wk) - Adds 605 BDs.
Vol 2: **,*** (** wk)
Vol 3: **,*** (** wk)
Vol 4: **,*** (** wk)
Vol 5: **,*** (** wk)
Vol 6: **,*** (** wk)
Current average: 44,711

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Higurashi Kira v1 did 2,130/1,441 for 3,571.

Samurai Champloo BD Box sold 1,314.

Next week Vol. 1s are Dog Days, KamiNomi II, MariaHolic 2, and Gintama'.

And while I complained last week that the dollar was barely ¥79, now it's under ¥78! @!*&#*(!@
