Absolutely no one did...it wasn't even clear that it would be a 30k seller until the 6th episode, before that I had it pegged at about 15k, and even that was way above my initial expectations before the airing.

Also, I noticed that P4A's pricing and episode distribution for the first volume is exactly like AnoHana's. I guess Aniplex have really adapted Bandai's practice of including only the first episode and halving the price of the first volume. It's actually a pretty smart idea since, even though they make less money on the volume as a whole, they make more money on a per episode basis on the first episode, which is theoretically the most expensive to produce.

Also, P4A's DVD sales are extremely high. I mean, I expected it to do better than most of the shows from Summer and Spring in DVD of course, but I wasn't expecting it to be hanging around the 30-40s in ranking like it is (I thought it would be at 100-200). I'm really excited to see whether it will reach 60k+ in sales, and we will only have to wait a month after the anime starts airing to see if it does.

Even 15k would be pretty good. Was the expectations that high already or you sort of knew it was the type of show to do well?

It certainly had the makings of a success, but a 30k seller? Thats ridiculous.

And for all I bitched about it being incredibly stupid, recent shows have managed to be even dumber, so whatever. I'm over it now. Mostly.

Even with the top 50, BD threshold is almost 1,000.
No additional Vol. 5 bump for Madoka, not that I was expecting one, but it stays consistent.


Summer update:
Natsume San v1 starts us off with a pretty clean BD/DVD split, 5676/4278 for 9,954. Looks like it should stay pretty on par with the first two seasons. It's only 182 copies off season two v1 wk1. Yay Natsume!

Spring update:
AnoHana v3 does 21839/4192 for 26,031. More normal drop this time, 8% off v2 wk1.

Tiger & Bunny v4 starts with 23165/1784 for 24,949. Higher DVDs than last time means this starts almost the same as v3, only down 0.4% from v3 wk1. Already only 1200 behind v1's total.

Index II v7 does 10562/3757 for 14,319. Down 5% from v6 wk1.

Steins v3 starts at 13,248 BDs, up 2% from v2 wk1. Two week 1 increases in a row. [Update] About 500 DVDs, total 13,748.

AoEx v3 does 5307/6882 for 12,189. 15% drop from v2 wk1.

Gintama' v2 drops to 10,603 first week. 25% down v1 wk1.

Azazel-san v3, he final volume, does 5930/2705 for 8,635. If like v2 it doesn't get a second week, final average is 9,119. Only three cheap volumes though so total ¥ sales are a good deal lower than that number would suggest. Denpa has made the same gross so far on only 7k average, for example.

Dog Days v2 holds up okayish given the event ticket bump v1 got. 5161/2359 for 7520. 22% off v1 wk1. Guess the question is if it can get a second week and pass 8k. Hopefully it's consistent from here on out with 6.5k or more per volume.

Sekai-ichi v3 gets 3,822, nominal increase on v2 wk1.

Hidan no Aria v3 does 3355/1857 for 5,212. 7.8% drop from v2 wk1.

Sket Dance v1 does... heh, jeez, I expected a big drop but our 12k first ep volume is followed by 1,664 for v2 wk1 and I bet it doesn't rank again. I really wanted to list v0 in the v1 list because it does include the first episode of the TV series, but this is way too much of a drop for even a note. Makes Working!!'s drop look like nothing. I was prepared to leave it in even with that kind of drop but this is too misleading.

A Channel v4 does 3659/1253 for 4,912. Off 8% from v2 wk1.

Nichijou v3, 2,220 BDs, an extremely slight increase of 1% from v2 wk1 BD, though we also have a 690 DVD estimate for v2. Need a >100 list for a DVD estimate for v3. [Update] About 730 DVDs, give or take. Total 2,950.

Hanasaku v2 adds 1106 BDs, bringing its total to 9,158. 12% off v1 (using 710 DVD v1estimate) after 2 weeks. Not bad.

Softenni v3 only has a DVD estimate available, about 300.


Winter update:
Madoka v5 does 50596/8422 for 59,018. A drop of only 1.8% from v4 w1.

Infinite Stratos v5 does 21122/7319 for 28,441. 5% drop, first real wk1 on wk1 drop of the series.

Starry Sky v7 gets 2,889, a 29% leap from v6 wk1, although v6 might have just been constrained first week as its 2nd week was a lot higher than usual.

Freezing v6, final volume, 3200/1680 for 4,880. 2.4% drop. Assuming no second week, final average is 5,299. ¥215.8m sales.

Zombie v6, final volume sees a bump over the previous volume, doing 1923/939 for 2,862. 19% increase on v5. Final average, 3,177, ¥166.5m sales.

Gosick v5 does 1,712 BDs. [Update] About 610 DVDs, so a total of 2,322.

Merry v6 does 1,188 BDs. ;_; [Update] About 500 DVDs, so a total of 1,688.

Hourou v5 does 992 BDs. DVDs outside the top 300, so less than 259.

OreTsuba v3 only has a DVD estimate available, about 500.

Well, not when the Tuesday threshold is 4.2k.

That kind of bump almost never happens. Not unless there's an episode on it that didn't air on TV or some really special extra.

Man just imagine if they'd been able to put together that 45 minute episode 10 Shinbou/Urobuchi originally wanted. But this is the studio that throws together theatrical releases in two months (coughnegimacough) so sadly there's no way they would have had time.

Director's cut of ep 12 should bump v6 sales but that might depend on how much of an addition it is.
