Default Moving JP/TW/HK BD solicitations to the R2 forum

I'm pretty sure all the regulars in the import community here have already expressed their preference for putting all JP releases in the same forum, and separating JP releases from US ones. I know I lobbied for that many times in the past.

Nothing stopping us from just doing that now, I suppose! I haven't really explored all the mod options yet in terms of creating new subforums and all (if I even can, as I understand it I'm all-forum mod but not admin), but I don't really think that's necessary right now.

My suggestion is pretty simple: just start posting any [JP]-related (or [TW]/[HK]/asian in general) solicitation/question thread in the R2 News forum. There's no reason why we shouldn't, and currently all that forum is being used for is the sales thread and monthly purchases so I doubt it'll be overwhelmed.

If there's no massive objection in the next day or so I will start moving at least the recent [JP] threads over there (not sure I'll go through ALL of them EVER, but we'll see) and ask our regular solicit thread posters (WTK usually gets to it quickest so that would cover most of them) to start posting there instead.

Thoughts welcome.

I certainly have no objections to this move. It would create less clutter in this part of the forums, that much is for sure.

And while you're at it something, mind unpinning some of the stickied threads here, specifically the ones that haven't been posted in since 2009 & 2010?

I prefer the BD releases in the BD forums... JP BDs are NOT R2.

They are region A.

I dont mind if the Non-English friendly BD releases (JP, TW, HK, FR, KR etc) that do NOT contain English subs or dubs be left in the R2 section. But that in itself is weird... would the R2 section then have 2 threads for the same title, 1 for DVD and 1 for BD?

DVDs are separated by regions. BDs should be as well... A B C. But do not use the DVD regions.

That's just a label, it doesn't matter what we call it as long as we know what goes in it. I'd just rename it to "Japanese and Asian Releases" or something like that but I don't think I have forum renaming powers.

The important point is that they're Japanese releases, not some arbitrary region coding scheme that has no relation to content of release method. Everyone buying a JP release knows it's BD A/DVD 2.

No, certainly not, it would be one thread per show. DVDs are almost totally irrelevant for JP releases, but if anyone wanted to post about something specific to the DVD version, they can do it in the solicitation thread. It's exactly what we already do in this very forum already. We almost never create split DVD/BD threads if a show has BD because BD is what everyone is buying.

If people want to leave Western releases set up as they are I have no objection whatsoever. But there's always been widespread opposition to how JP releases are handled; JP is an utterly different market from western markets, and should be handled in its own forum. East Asian would just go along with it because it's only a smattering here and there, and they're largely being bought by the same people who import JP discs.

Basically I'm assuming most people would want releases divvied up according to how we actually experience buying anime as people, not according to a strict technological nuance.

If you're speaking region-coding wise, yes, they are region A. But those specific Blu-ray titles are released in R2 (referring to the location of where they're being released).

For the importer community here I'm not sure if DVD's are relevant enough anymore to warrant their own specific thread. If it's a DVD-Box it'll be probably be labelled as one or posted in the Rondo Globe/Bandai Visual thread.

If there's a BD release of one anime series it's safe to assume there will be a DVD release unless it's stated otherwise in the thread (titles such as Kyoukai Horizon do not have a DVD release).

The R2 section is just going to become the Japanese/Asian release section, that's all.

Edit: Beaten two posts ago.

I did unpin about a dozen old threads throughout the various forums, but wasn't sure if I should unpin some of the ones in here.

Can probably be unstuck:
[US] List of Blu-ray Releases - probably out of date and unnecessary now that BD is increasingly the norm even in the US.
Released and upcoming anime in HD - Probably too old.
High Definition Hardware Sales Thread - Probably too old.
High Definition Software Sales Thread - Probably too old and redundant since we have a retail forum.

Will unstick those if no objections.

Might leep, albeit moved to JP, and maybe someone active could take it over if they want to:
[Jp] releases with [EngSub] and/or [EngDub]

Despite the fact that there hasn't been a post in my thread since May 2011, I'm still updating it whenever news of a Blu-ray solicitation of a US release pops up, courtesy of WTK.

But this certainly begs the obvious question: does anyone even look at my thread? I just wonder if it's useful to anyone or not.

Ah, sorry, didn't notice it was yours. I may not read it, but don't take me as a barometer of who reads R1 threads, since I don't buy R1s (so of course I don't read R1 threads). I'll leave that one alone, now that I look at it there's a lot of useful info there.

It's okay, no need to apologize.

Suppose that I might consider taking over this thread. Would I have to start a new thread? Just curious.
