It's not really about region coding, it's about different markets. Region coding is just a silly technological quirk that nobody has ever paid attention to, so no argument from me on that point. It's not even consistent between formats anyway, so I'd never use it as the distinction. The change would be because they're Japanese releases, which are fundamentally different in pretty much every way from R1 releases.

Anyway, I'll probably start moving threads over shortly. I understand the convenience offered to some to have all BDs in one forum but for me that doesn't seem to override the highly counter-intuitive setup it necessitates for regular importers, and the fact that it treats BDs and DVDs totally differently (why not have all releases worldwide in one uber-forum then?), with DVDs split by market and BDs by format... it's just weird. I wouldn't do this if people hadn't asked for it a bunch of times before, and if the forum split never happened this is where the previous administration would have moved by now regardless. Anyway, I'm just repeating myseld now.

So... yeah, please post JP, HK, TW solicits in the R2 forum now. I've contacted the Mania admin about renaming the forums and descriptions so it's more obvious for non-regs, but we'll see how that goes. I can't do that myself without actual admin access.

Don't plan on touching any other forums... I don't think there's been any real desire expressed to change how any of the other ones work, I've only see that with this one.

Edit: I have three options for moving it looks like: leave no redirect, leave permanent redirect, leave expiring redirect. I guess I'll use a 3 day expiring redirect, so this forum isn't cluttered with "this thread moved" messages forever, but there's a couple days for people to notice.

Edit2: Ah, I used the mass-move functionality but it seems like when mass-moving you can't specify an expiring redirect. Well, they'll drop off the top page pretty quickly.

Good idea. The one problem is, most of the threads that got moved don't mention BD in the title. So it's gonna be difficult to tell sometimes whether the topic is discussing Japanese BD or R2J DVD.

Well, it wouldn't be "BD" vs "DVD" anyway, it'd just be "the Working'!! solicitation thread" or "the Mirai Nikki solicitation thread". It's taken for granted that most releases are multi-format nowadays, and we'd discuss both formats in the same thread. Since they generally don't differ in any other respect.

If someone were posting about a re-release of a show in a boxset, then yes it'd be good to include the format in the title. I think I'll go through some of the recent BD boxset threads tomorrow and specify "BD box" in the title.

It also makes it easier to encompass everything in one post. I couldn't post the information about the Mirai Nikki or Hanasaku Iroha DVDs as they were in this forum. It made no sense for me to post any information about them in the R2 forum since they were bare-bones with no bonus features. Now I can edit the posts to include what little information for those who are looking for DVD info.

This also helps for future releases that will be BD-only, which the market is slowly trending towards anyways, so that the releases are isolated in the Asian forums where they better fit.

Man there are a lot of BD boxes. I added BD or BD Box anywhere it looked appropriate on the first three pages, do let me know if I missed any. I'll probably make an effort to go all the way back to about page 10 in the next day or two, that should be enough probably.

We might want to think up a more consistent subject line system, although at the same time I don't want every subject line to be [Full][OfTags][ToThe][PointOf][Ridiculousness] either. One upside is that most of the threads come from a handful of people and any stragglers can be easily edited to match.

What about BDs from other regions (UK, AU, FR, DE, IT,...)? Do they stay in this forum or do they go to R2E/R4 forum?

We can leave them here for now, unless people request otherwise.

Speaking as someone who does not import I would like to say that this new division by geographical regions is more convenient for me, especially since most of the recent threads were for Asian releases.
I wonder if that is a coincidence or a trend?
In any case, the change works well for me.
