Flower Mound, TX (October 14, 2011) – FUNimation Entertainment today announced that it has acquired the home entertainment, digital, and merchandise rights to the “Fafner” anime series and movie.

The series focuses on a group of children who pilot the titular Fafners in a war against the Festum—giant aliens who destroyed much of the world. The movie takes place two years after the end of the original series.

thought the tv series ended well enough... the prequel ova thou I would want more than the new movie. sounds weird they would pick up the tv and the movie but skip the ova.

With the movie English cast announcement, it's pretty much guaranteed to be released this year. FUNimation don't announce English cast announcement unless they are close to solicit the particular license.

With that said, the question comes to the TV series. Will it really be released on Blu-ray? Japan is planning for a BD-Box release (which still hasn't been solicited). I'm thinking that it will be DVD only (for now?).

Would the TV series be released before the movie (or at the same time)? It would be a very foolish move on FUNi's part if the movie somehow gets released first.

And there is the matter of Right of Left special. Could FUNimation perhaps release this as a subbed extra (if they truly have this, I don't know if FUNi will dub this)?

So it gets a new cast, which was expected considering that a good number of the VA's in the original have not been active in voice acting as of late, making an outsource back to Bang Zoom not really worth it. I figured as much. I might check out the TV series now that it has been rescued.
