Nikkei Entertainment seems to have a preliminary 2011 BD yearly list up, just a small one, I assume we'll see more added when the full Oricon Top 500/100 is posted. I really hope there's more than 100 in the BD list this year.

AnoHana v1 +1118 BDs, total 46,474.

Steins v1 +683 BDs, total 19,141. If we had DVD numbers it could possibly be 20k.

Hanasaku v1 +238 BDs, total 11,254.

Star Driver v1 +213 BDs, total 15,713.

Yuruyuri v1 +140 BDs, total 10,899.

And of course...

Madoka has updates for 1 through 5.
v1 +1852 BDs, total 80,089.
v2 +2063 BDs, total 74,570.
v3 +2229 BDs, total 68,877.
v4 +834 BDs, total 68,230.
v5 +670 BDs, total 67,137.

This brings the totals to the following:
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica:
Vol 1: 78,237 -> 80,089 (12 wk) - Adds 1852 in preliminary yearly list.
Vol 2: 72,507 -> 74,570 (*8 wk) - Adds 2063 in same.
Vol 3: 66,648 -> 68,877 (*4 wk) - Adds 2229 in same.
Vol 4: 67,396 -> 68,230 (*9 wk) - Adds 834 in same.
Vol 5: 66,467 -> 67,137 (*6 wk) - Adds 670 in same.
Vol 6: 66,932 (*5 wk)
Current average: 70,973

Average officially crosses over the 70k mark! Will be over 71k in the final list I assume.

That's fantastic! I was looking at the numbers every time there was an update hoping the average would finally achieve the 70k mark! Also, it's fantastic to see the Vol. 1 reaching the 80k mark!

After 6 days, it's at least ¥400,000,000. Whether that means ¥400,000,000 or ¥499,999,999 I don't know, but probably closer to the former since days 4-6 were weekdays.

What's more interesting is the second statistic: related K-ON! goods have sold ¥28,000,000,000, aka 28 billion yen, aka about $360 million USD. I don't know what time period this is, but with an utterly gargantuan number like that I'm thinking it's got to be the sum of every piece of K-ON! merchandise ever sold. We're talking over a third of a billion dollars here.

Breaking it down a bit...
The DVDs and BDs for seasons 1 and 2 combined come to about ¥5.2 billion yen.
Figure there's got to be at an minimum 2 million CDs sold for another ¥3 billion yen, maybe.
Live event videos come to, very roughly, about ¥0.8 billion, maybe closer to ¥1 billion by now.
Movie earnings are at least ¥0.4 billion so far.

All comes to about ¥9.4 billion, at a really conservative estimate that undoubtedly undercounts.

But either way it shows the power of merchandise. That ~¥10 billion from DVD/BD/CD/Box office is still barely more than a third of what it's pulled in, assuming the ¥28 billion isn't already excluding any of the above. There's no way K-ON! isn't one of the most profitable otaku properties ever.

Second weekend added ¥193.5 million, sound quite good to me for a second week after ¥316.3 million.

I don't see a post with the current total but if it did over ¥400m first 6 days, then ¥193m the next weekend, it should be over ¥600m easily, after a week and a half. That's 3/4ths of the way to Shoushitsu's lifetime gross and approaching $8m USD.

I know it'll drop off a lot after this, but I have to wonder how high it'll go... I would be ecstatic to see it cross that magical ¥1bn line. I don't know of any other movie for a late night TV series that has done so. Evangelion excepted obviously.

Too bad the yearly list in 2012 will probably be skewed with the first two weeks of K-ON! not counted, since it started in December. I guess it depends when the reporting period starts.

We do have a number actually, and a good bit higher than I'd guessed. Forget ¥600m, it's nearly ¥700m. ¥691,086,400 (almost $9m USD) to be more precise. It should breeze past Shoushitsu at this rate, which is damn impressive. ¥1bn really could be happening.

The ticket sales aren't quite as impressive to me since they're giving pretty major incentives for multiple ticket purchases, like a film strip for 3 ticket stubs. Plus there were all the different types of trinkets included with the advance tickets, and of course they made 5 different types of each to match each main character.

I'm still glad it's doing well, but I'd kinda like to know how well it would do without all this otaku-baiting. Of course, such incentives are pretty much normal for anime films nowadays, but they just seem to be going really overboard here, even for K-ON.

Another week for Persona, and two big OVA/Movies (IS and Basara). No third week for AnoHana, for the first time.

Fall update:
Persona 4 v1 adds 1158 BDs, total 38,703. I guess it won't officially hit 40k until monthly or yearly lists, since DVDs didn't make it. It only has 1.4k to go but next week it won't add quite that much and the week after it won't rank thanks to the Christmas rush.

Summer update:
none

Spring update:
Sengoku Otome v6 does 870 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

HoshiKaka v6, final volume, does 721 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Overall average 1,278.

Tiger&Bunny v7 does 620 BDs, total26,008, so it's up 4% on v6 after the same number of weeks.

Past seasons:
none

Reposting Madoka with the preliminary yearly data:
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica:
Vol 1: 78,237 -> 80,089 (12 wk) - Adds 1852 in preliminary yearly list.
Vol 2: 72,507 -> 74,570 (*8 wk) - Adds 2063 in same.
Vol 3: 66,648 -> 68,877 (*4 wk) - Adds 2229 in same.
Vol 4: 67,396 -> 68,230 (*9 wk) - Adds 834 in same.
Vol 5: 66,467 -> 67,137 (*6 wk) - Adds 670 in same.
Vol 6: 66,932 (*5 wk)
Current average: 70,973

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai:
Vol 1: 45,356 (*4 wk)
Vol 2: 32,466 (*4 wk)
Vol 3: 29,510 (*4 wk)
Vol 4: 27,751 (*4 wk)
Vol 5: 26,144 (*3 wk)
Vol 6: 25,212 (*2 wk)
Current average: 31,073

Will probably remove AnoHana and Madoka again next week until yearly data is out.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Infinite Stratos OVA does 22577/8238 for 30,815.

Basara movie starts at 23485/5332 for 28,817.

Gundam UC v4 is up to 151,854.

One more slow week before everything goes crazy. Since this ended up being short let's do a recap of where the remaining Fall v1s stand, with 1st week sales of known shows added in for perspective, although keep in mind the point estimates can be mildly to wildly off from real sales (Persona's points exaggerated BDs by 57% for example). Ordered by the sum of BD and DVD sales estimates. Purple dates are the ones coming in two weeks.

Seeing Shana do so poorly still bothers me much more than good (great!) shows selling badly usually does. And it looks set to be the best season of the show, easily. Yet I had reasonably low expectations (first volume 5k, maybe) and it's unlikely to even hit those.

Nice to see the OVA do well. The sales of the show is really, really consistent throughout all the volumes.

It also bothers me to see Shana do poorly right now (it could still pull up within the next week or so). Maken-ki vol. 1 just edges it out, but that has to be due to the fact that it has a special edition bundled with a dakimakura. It'd be interesting to see how far sales drop for Maken-ki after the first vol. 1.

Could but probably won't. If 9-10 weren't epic enough, I have no idea what else it would take to convince people. The only hope I still hold out is that a lot of people went ahead and ordered somewhere other than Amazon while it was in doubt whether Amazon would get any external bonuses.

I mean sure *I* haven't ordered yet, need to put a new other through this week (maybe tonight) but I don't expect to be part of a last minute surge that doubled its sales predictions.

It'll probably end up doing a significantly less than the points indicate and then dropping even harder. I expect sales similar to R-15 with its bedsheet (2k v1, 1.5k v2, missing the rankings by v3).

I was curious about how movie sales are calculated actually. I know K-ON! movie tickets could be preordered, but at what point are they counted as as actual box office revenues? Are preorder tickets assigned a specific date/time they're redeemable at, and counted towards revenues at that point?
