Vol. 1: 21,854

Vol. 3: 14,151

Yeah, Vol. 1 was somewhat inflated, but even if v7 added the usual 2nd week sales (which it won't, thresholds will be far too high) and hit about 8.4k, it'd still have dropped 50% from v2 and is getting to around a two-thirds drop off v1.

This means that Fate/Zero, Persona 4, Working, and Haganai, the shows looking to be this season's top sellers (though Haganai sadly looking to be significantly less so than the others) are not being released on this season's main release week.

Yeah, although releasing a week before the usual rush can be pretty detrimental to (reported) sales unless second week sales are consistently strong enough to rank in the "heavy" week. YRYR has gotten hit with that before, although it managed to slip in to the monthly list and backfill the reporting gap.

I have a feeling we'll see that happen to Haganai as well, since its sales will be fairly close to YRYR. Working!! and Persona shouldn't have any trouble getting second week numbers. And obviously Fate won't. Horizon is the other top seller but it being BD only makes getting second weeks easier, and it's coming out in the "main" week anyway.

Well, one more reason for me to get Haganai!

Oh, right, I didn't think about second week sales at all. Yeah, that will probably kill any chances of getting second week sales for Haganai. What else from this season is starting in January?

Though you're able to get some sort of monthly sales data too, right? How much would that help fill in when we miss second week sales like that?

I forgot Horizon was one of the top sellers and didn't realize it was also BD only. I thought Fate/Zero was the only one that had made that move as well.

A lot, but nothing else that week:

2012年01月13日 Haganai
2012年01月25日 Last Exile
2012年01月25日 Guilty Crown
2012年01月25日 Mashiro-iro
2012年01月25日 Hunter x Hunter
2012年01月27日 gdgd
2012年01月27日 UN-GO
2012年01月27日 Phi Brain

The only one of those besides Haganai that will have sales even worth mentioning is Guilty Crown.

It's really more the continuing series coming out that week that will crowd out Haganai's second.

Newtype posts 4-5 week period Oricon lists roughly each month, and the usual sources report anything that adds to what was already reported in weekly rankings. That's where posts like this or this come from. Depending on how the reporting period falls, you either learn nothing new (like if the last week reported is the big week of the month, which drowns out the first 3 weeks). Or if it lines up nicely, we can get 3rd and sometimes even 4th week sales numbers for some discs. That's always nice, because even 20k sellers sometimes don't chart three weeks in a row.

Theoretically Haganai should also be covered by Anime Power Ranking, which tracks sales of anime based on other media (primarily or exclusively print?) but we haven't seen those rankings more than once or twice in the past 8 months, either because nobody posts them anymore or because they haven't been reporting aynthing not already covered in other sources.

Third weekend brings total earnings to ¥943,034,250 after its third weekend. It must have passed ¥1,000,000,000 by now, and the holiday weekend is coming up. I think that officially puts it above everything from at least the last few years that isn't Evangelion or Shounen Jump/Conan/Ghibli/Pokemon-type stuff aimed primarily at younger kids, and it still has a good bit of life left in it, I'd think.

Looks like a 2011 list was posted in the thread, too tired to tl the titles right now:

*0.5億※*10(*35)scr 2011 Sora no Otoshimono
*0.3億※*29(*42)scr 2011 Mahou Sensei Negima / Hayate no Gotoku

Tired, so I just did the ones based on late night (or similar, in FMA's case) TV anime. Everything ahead of K-ON! is the usual you see there every year... Ghibli > Pokemon > Conan > Doraemon > Shin-chan > Precure.

Just out of curiosity, what were the numbers of Eva if you have them under your sleeve?

Eva 1.0 did ¥2.0bn and was #4 animated movie of 2007 (released 9/01/2007), behind Pokemon, Doraemon, Conan.
Eva 2.0 did ¥4.0bn and was #2 animated movie of 2009 (released 6/27/2009), behind Pokemon.

I see. Never thought that Eva 2.0 did 2 times more than 1.0.
