Default Current promotions

I'll have to request a thread title change unless that can't be done.

Anywho...current promotions of interest.

1) Pre-order 2 DVD & BD and get 25% off
2) Buy 3 released DVD & BD and get 30% off (ends December 27th 2011)

Looks like HMV continuously runs a 5 points/100 yen promotion when you buy at least 2 anime related items.

Hmmm, if Amazon isn't going to split their shipments any more, it might be worth taking advantage of this.

When I put the items in my cart, I noticed that they were eligible for free shipping. What kind of shipping do they use for their free shipping?

Their list price includes tax. Do they actually charge the tax, or does that get taken off when you actually order?

Does HMV do a pre-charge on the credit card when you order like CDJ does?

That's for domestic orders. International orders will only ship via EMS.

Tax is taken off once the order is placed. I don't remember off the top of my head if you see the tax taken off right before you submit the order

They charge when shipped. The only initial charge you get on your credit card is the standard authorization charge.

Oh. Of course. I knew that was too good to be true. *sigh*

Well, that's one good piece of news.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. That's a problem because it fucks with my credit card's fraud prevention measures and they'll block every other charge.

Thanks for your reply.

Standard EMS shipping rates make HMV a lot less useful since I don't have more than one disc a month to order beyond February, and I might as well just keep my Amazon order for at least January. I'll have to think about whether I want to mess with it for my February orders.

That's a really sensitive fraud protection on your card then since pretty much all stores do the initial authorization charge once you place your order and the order is approved.

I do know that pretty much 99% of the time my HMV orders when charged and shipped have tripped Capital One's fraud protection. haha.

One disc via EMS will be cheaper than one disc via DHL using Amazon unless it's a heavy ass disc. I just had two CDs and one BD ship via EMS and that cost me 1500 yen. But, either way, shipping one disc per month is silly via a shipping cost perspective.

I don't really mind not getting discs the month they are released anymore, so I've just bundled stuff together to lower per unit shipping since HMV will hold all items for shipment if you choose that option.

Breathing too hard in the general direction of CapitalOne's headquarters seems to trip their fraud detection. It's obnoxious. Anything to bypass the currency fee though...

Back when I used HMV.jp, I tripped it so much they set a special password on my account I had to use when I talked to customer service. Amazon.jp, on the other hand, doesn't seem to usually trip it nor does using the Mastercard verification program.

I haven't shopped at HMV (and hearing this discourages me from doing so) but I get it a lot with Amazon. Not as a high percentage of my shipment, because I get so many, but I'm probably dealing with them at least every 4-6 weeks for Amazon-related orders, more often if I buy something out of the ordinary like Moritapo points for Niconico or DLsite games or something.

And the fraud clarification calls are so useless anyway. They ask you to confirm a bunch of transactions with utterly ambiguous names that bear no relation to the names of retailers you purchased from. "Catalog sales", oh that's specific. -_-

Yeah, apparently banks don't see much difference between the world's third largest economy and Vietnam. It's being charged outside the United States, so obviously it must be fraud. Nevermind that I'm making charges in Japan an average of about 3-4 times a month for the past two years and that I've called them and asked them to not block the damn credit card charge several times. I've just been using PayPal for my CDJ orders, because otherwise every other authorization charge gets blocked. And I'm still getting phone calls to call their fraud department to confirm that I've made all of my recent transactions about every other month, because they've never heard of the concept of "behavior recognition", so they *still* need to confirm that yes, those Amazon.jp charges are legit, just like every one of the last hundred or so times I bought from them. But at least they don't actually block the charges for those, unlike the CDJ situation.

Based on my experience with CDJ, EMS for two BDs would cost about 1100 yen. It would be cheaper to keep my Amazon.jp order for that, at least for my January and February orders. And by the time Nise gets solicited, this sale will be over, and I'd have to factor in the discs costing several hundred more yen each as well.

Well, this sure is some useful information since I'll have my Capital One MasterCard in a couple weeks at most...
