Not really a surprise, though, right? The threshold this week was over 1200. There's no way a show that doesn't even hit 4k in its first week sells 1k in its fourth. Yeah it's been charting well on Amazon for nearly four weeks now, which is totally crazy for a show such such middling reported sales... but if the first week sales told us anything, it's that Amazon isn't all that representative of the wider market for this show.

It'll add a bit more in the monthly charts, but I'm not getting my hopes up for anything more than about another 600. If we're lucky it'll just barely hit 5k.

Dunno, maybe. But then you'd expect it to be ranking worse - I don't really know how Amazon calculates their bestseller list though.

Let's check a few places...
Forest - On order? I think that's what that status is.
HMV - For Order - usually instock within 2-3 days.
Amazon - Usually ships within 1 to 3 weeks

InuBoku has a great second week. Idolmaster drops back down to v4 levels. Symphogear does a bit better than expected.
No Fate, again. I would have thought a 50k release with a huge second week would be able to swing at least 680 in its fourth week. We'll have more on the monthly list though.


Winter update:
Symphogear v1 does a bit better than expected with 3631/823 for 4,454. Might see DVD ranking all the way up to v3 or v4 if it keeps coming out in slower weeks, and consistent second weeks on BD for the even slower subsequent week.

Another v1 sells 2,192 BDs, DVDs do no rank. About as expected.

InuBoku v1 adds 991/1209 total 13,819. DVDs have pulled away from BDs a bit but it's still remarkably even. And remarkably high. It should have everything this season soundly beaten for v1 besides Nise.

HS DxDv1 adds 936 BDs, bringing the total over 10k to 10,057.

AnoNatsu v1 adds 1226 BDs, total 7,354 BDs. Not a bad second week.

Brave10 v1 adds 539 DVDs, total 4,973. If the threshold is low enough I guess BDs could take it over 5k.

Natsume Shi v2 adds 603 DVDs, total 8,563. Hopefully another 500 BDs on Thursday to take it over 9k.


Fall update:
Tamayura v4 continues to be very consistent at 3754/737 for 4,491.

Shana III v4 does 2710/1123 for 3,833. If nothing else, it's very very very consistent. Ignoring the second week that v2 BD ranked, it's done 3978 > 3801 > 3988 > 3833.

Maken-ki v4 sells 1932/811 for 2,743.

C3 sells 1,825 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Mirai Nikki v4 does 1,747 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Persona 4 v5 adds 2025/898 for 26,414.

Horizon v4 adds 2730 in a slightly bigger second week, total 19,426. Should almost hit 20k next week.

Haganai v3 adds 879 BDs, total 10,397. That gives it a 11,479 average at the halfway point. It has a chance of hanging on to 10k total.

Working'!! v6 adds 732 BDs, total 9,669. First volume still below 10k after two weeks. One to go with series average still almost 13k at 12,987.

Guilty Crown v3 adds 825 BDs, total 8,519.


Past seasons:
Idolmaster v6 standalone does 5834/1353 for 7,187. 20% drop from v5 wk1 for some reason, but still slightly ahead of v4 wk1. Maybe G4U will be higher this time? Or maybe v5 as just an anomaly. [Update: G4U Vol. 4 sells 17759, bringing the combined total to 24,946. G4U was a bit higher but not enough to offset the drop in standalone.]

Penguindrum v6 sells 4,104 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Gosick v12, final volume, sells 1789/610 for 2,399. Final average, 2,446.

Nichijou v10 sees DVDs rank in the normal lists for the first time since v4, doing 1812/551 for 2,363.

Gintama' adds 1406, total 11,155.

AoEx v10, final volume, adds 806 DVDs, total 8,232. Final average 12,422.

Pretty good list, it gives us very close, usable estimates for a few discs, including ZnT v2 and Milky Holmes 2 v1. A slightly less certain estimate for Rinne, but it'll do. 300th is usually around 300 copies, and it's 55 ahead of that so I'm probably undercounting a tad if anything.

o_0 Wow. It.... actually did okay. I'm shocked. I was expecting this to be a sales dud, selling maybe ~2k on BD at best and not ranking or selling almost nothing on DVD.

Can't wait to get my v1..... sometime in May. ;_;

Can't believe I haven't realized this before. Totoro has been ranking every tuesday for 536 weeks straight? Am I reading this right? I know it's Ghibli and the targeted audience is a lot broader than otaku late night shows, but still, ranking for 11 years is just crazy!

Regarding Persona, I guess we are gonna see a significant bump from v9 -> v10 with the True End being included in the final volume, pretty much like the bump we saw with Steins;Gate. It kinda irks me having to wait till August to see the final fight animated, but i guess that's better than to cram 3 boss fights into one episode (hell, Ameno Sagiri felt kinda rushed in my opinion).

Right. The Totoro DVD came out 548 weeks ago, so it's only missed 12 charts in 10.5 years.

And it might be less than that, because Oricon usually skips one week a year, when it doubles up around the New Year. So unless it increments the count by 2 in that case - and I don't think it does based on what I've seen - Totoro has probably only missed half a dozen or so.

But note I'm pretty sure that's of the Top 300, not Top 100. It's more common for it to miss the Top 100, though it still makes it the vast majority of the time. Dropping DVD thresholds (as other anime moves to BD) are giving it an edge too.

That's pretty crazy even though it's a discounted volume. Good stuff though. I hope the sales for volume 2 stay pretty steady.

People are probably being selective on which volumes they get standalone and bundled with G4U so there's bound to be flucuations. We'll just have to wait for Media Create sales this week to see what vol. 5 G4U did.

G4U Vol. 6 sells 17759, bringing the combined total to 24,946.

v6 is up 700 on v5, though that only makes up a bit less than half of the 1.8k drop in standalone BD sales from v5. v5 also had a very large (1.8k) second week, whereas v6 will probably be down around 700-800. Still not sure what gave v5 such a bump (it's at nearly 28k total) All told I guess v6 will end up a bit more than 2k behind v5. Series average so far is still about 25,521.
