Oh god, as almost everyone had noted, the figure style is so retro. Don't particularly care for it. Urabe though is an interesting, if somewhat creepy, character. I'm convinced they're telegraphing something (she's an alien yeah, it's the saucers on her pen and book bag) but then it just might be trolling on their part.

I actually thought that his confession would involve grabbing her and dancing like in the dream, which she would somehow recognize from her own dreams. Maybe they're saving that for something later.

Except for the drool part she has a very magnetic character and way of speaking.

I find it interesting how...polarizing this show is. Its really, REALLY squicking some people. Maybe its because I was familiar with it from the manga, but even back in the day I don't remember finding it that gross. I mean...its just saliva, easily the most banal of the major bodily fluids.

Now of course, there are certain people I expected to have an objection to it, but the sheer vehemence is just...strange.

And its not a saliva fetish show. Yeah, he drinks her spit, but thats the means, not the end.

Its actually an Urabe fetish show.

Actually, I would expect nothing less from Zac. I mean, he's pretty much obligated to do that. While I don't doubt that Zac is sincerely disgusted by it (most people would be), I wouldn't be surprised if he increased the volume a bit, so to speak, for that review.

I'm much more surprised at the general reactions to Upotte!!.

Yeah, I mean...sure, its a dumb show, and if you think to hard it gets even dumber but...its not like its the first show to sexualize middle-school students. Thats just one of those things you need to learn to deal with if you actually want to interact with anime on any sort of serious level. Don't like it? Great, but save us the histrionics about how it ruined anime forever.

His Sengoku Collection review was actually almost funny, though the show is just completely harmless fluff, its got barely more substance than Acchi Kocchi, and only because it shows more skin.

As huge fan of the manga, I'm totally delighted at how this turned out. Even the music is what I hoped it to be. I'm glad they were able to keep the designs so close to the manga's because I was afraid of an adaptation mishap.

Hoods is certainly using their experience with Seikon no Qwaser and Manyuu Hikenchou to bring the sexy here; I was afraid any other studio would have toned down the sexual imagery and sexual tension.

It might be too early to tell if they "got" the manga's themes, but it looks promising.

At the risk of sounding pretentious I think the manga is mostly about romantic couple's dynamics. The author simply chooses bizarre situations to deliver them. Assuming this will be a faithful adaptation, anyone who has been involved in a romantic relationship will recognize some of the interactions. Some might hit too close to home .

Saliva exists to kill germs in the mouth. This reminds me of the Seinfeld joke about hair--people love kissing and caressing someone's hair, but as soon as it leaves someone's head, it becomes the vile, disgusting thing in the universe. That seems to be the real issue. Consider some of the term used by young teens for kissing: Suck face, swap spit. French kissing for that matter. If she'd kissed him, no big deal, but saliva is going to be transferred. Stick a drool covered finger in his mouth...ewwwww.

Actually, the one scene where it got a little icky for me was where she had the drool orgasm when he confessed.

- So many lemons.
- Hypothetically, now...
- Panties! And scissors. But most importantly, panties.
- Urabe is dangerous. Hugging her unleashes a demon.
- "What would you have done if I'd opened my eyes?" I thought she was going to say "Break up with you" but it would have been much worse than that.
- Heh. His first Urabe sex dream.
- HAHHAHA Oh god, flustered blushing Urabe <3 <3 <3 And she can see his dream by consuming his drool. o_O

That last scene was the best so far.

Seems like his attempts end in epic fails.
Her weird hobby suits her weird personality.
