Believe it or not, the show looks better in motion, though that could be my amazing BD player.. I was surprised when it looked this bad while taking screencaps. If I had some free time, I'd make a small clip to show what I mean.
Interesting. I know with BDs with detail smeared away upscales, it still looks bad in motion.

Default Re-release

Mahjong set too expensive? Well, there's going to be a common edition released on September 19.

Retailing for 32,000 yen, this 6 disc set will have all 25 episodes and the same extras as the Rinshan Kaihou LE BD-Box. They've commented that the video contents aren't the same, but nothing on the listing has been altered.

Bit more reasonable, but too bad the video will still be bad. There's a half decent BD rip getting released though, which is at least watchable, so I might pick this up to go along with it. But gah, September. I have two July BD boxes, one August, and now one September? Ouch.

Shit. Just when I said to myself "hey I shouldn't get Saki Achiga-hen because I'd like to own season 1 first."

Now I have no excuse. I don't really care about the not-amazing video quality either.

As someone who bought the expensive one, it's not terrible. I've seen much worse being called "HD" but it's not a great upscale. It looks worse since it's combined with art materials that weren't that high quality to begin with. In motion, it's not too bad, but screencaps tend to show the "cheapness" of it.

I don't want to say it's not bad because it doesn't look like how a show made in 2009 should look, but it's not the eye-cancer people say it is. I'm more than satisfied with my set and it cost more than this one. I'd say to anyone considering it: Don't worry about the video quality too much, it's satisfactory.

From the screencaps you posted when the box released, it looks like something I could easily look past. If it's better in motion then I'm probably not going to have much of a problem at all. If I can watch DVD's blown up on a 1080p screen then I think this wont be much of a problem.

(plus I sat through this BD Box with no problem)

Subara!!! I sure won't miss my chance this time. I was asking for it and there it is! Well, I don't know if I'll be able to get this by September, but I guess this one won't dissapear as fast as the LE.

The chances of this going OoP fast are highly unlikely. The official listing doesn't even state 限定生産 (Limited production). The reason the earlier edition had such a small pressing was due to the amount of mahjong sets they made. Now that they have the discs (mostly) mastered, all they have to do is sell the small box holding them and profit. I doubt they'll even change the box art/inner contents besides the logos. It's an incredibly smart decision since all the hard work is done.

They need to sell it at least until the third season airs! ^_^
