Normal Oricon data for 7/23-7/29 around 6-7AM EST tomorrow when I get up, but a lot of Soundscan data was posted (earlier than usual) and that's not something we often see so much of, so I decided to take a look before bed.
Soundscan DVD, and BD. Remember, Soundscan estimates are virtually always higher than Oricon so the numbers tomorrow will be different (lower)! Comparison to previous volume Soundscan estimates, Blu-ray only: here and here. Ignore the Oricon numbers in the first link, the poster counted both BD and DVD. Aquarion Evol: 5,664 → 5,140 ▼ Eureka AO: 4,070 → 4,086 ◄► Guilty Crown: 5,311 → 4,801 ▼ High School DxD: 7,160 → 6,833 ▼ Inu x Boku SS: 4,665 → 4,657 ◄► Hyouka: 7,241 → 7,601 ▲ Nisemonogatari: 43,264 → 41,900 ▼ Nyaruko-san: 6,903 → 6,134 ▼ Persona 4: 13,561 → 10,748 ▼ Saki Achiga-hen: 5,569 → 4,950 ▼ Very interesting about a small increase in Hyouka's numbers, and I wonder if it'll pan out in Oricon data. I have a feeling it'll be offset with a smaller second week (i.e. sales more front-loaded) and end up about the same or slightly less though. Especially given that DVDs may not rank. Saki doesn't seem like it'll drop disastrously either, so my fingers are crossed on that one. C'mon 5k series average please! K-ON! Movie is in for a very very small second week with 5,965 BDs, so even less with Oricon. I don't think it's going to go a whole lot past its initial 140k. As for new titles: Kuroko no Basuke is going to easily pass everything else this season with over 13k (so maybe ~11k Oricon?) opening week. Estimates are 7,282 DVD and 6,167 BD. Accel World has a promising BD estimate at 7,639. 6k Oricon with 1.5k DVDs perhaps. None of the other v1s made the preliminary SS list, which isn't surprising with a 4k threshold.

I'm really not a fan of Zetman, but you clearly forgot to add its sales numbers here.

Wagnaria ~Haru no DaiDaiDaiKanshasai~~ Accel World beats expectations, even going slightly higher than Stalker estimates. KuroBas wins the season (v1wk1 anyway) as expected. Thursday is a big big expansion of the list. Additions to the DVD list! And quite a few of them, wow. Including Hyouka, thank goodness. I don't think I've seen that many anime releases in the DVD top 100 since the new format came out. Big drops for the v1 discounted anime - AKB and Natsu-iro. Spring update: KuroBas v1 sells 6984/5626 for 12,610. Easily the best first week of the season. Accel World v1 sells 7372/1766 for 9,138. Wow, second best first week of the season, ahead of Nyaruko and Hyouka. This was performing quite modestly for a while and seemed on track for maybe 5-6k BDs when you took usually Stalker overestimates into account, but instead it beat estimates in both formats and performed strongly at the end. We ought to end up with two 10k first volumes now. Sakamichi v1 sells 2,037 BDs, DVDs do not rank, but are somewhere between 483-823. Total is sub-3k either way. Shirokuma v1 sells 1,133. Release is DVD-only (except for an Animate-exclusive BD, which didn't rank). Hyouka v2 sells 7050/1096 for 8,146, up 4% on v1 wk1. Impressive, though wk1 added 1621 in wks 2-3 so we'll see how v2 does. It's fared much better than most of the other titles that started last month. Nyaruko-san v2 sells 5599/1190 for 6,789. Saki Achiga v2 sells 4,718 BDs, DVDs do not rank. I can't call this one a real casualty fo high thresholds because v1 DVD was only 411 to begin with so there was no way they'd rank this month. It comes out in a dead week next time though, so they might return. BD is down 8.7% from v1 wk1 which isnt bad at all given the v1 event ticket. 5k series average is only going to be possible if the bonus episodes boost sales a lot though. AKB0048 v2 sells 3239/1086 for 4,325, down 40.8% on v1. Yeah, v1 was super inflated by the discount. Tsuritama v2 sells 2067/1786 for 3,853. Down 14.3% on v1. Eureka AO v2 sells 3,733 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Up 0.6% on v1 wk1 BD though it loses he 426 DVDs. This is another one like saki that slipped in before the heavy week last month, but entered the heavy week this month. Jormungand v2 sells 3,365 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 3.8% from v1 wk1 BD, so it's consistent at least. QB Rebellion v2 sells 2405/1077 for 3,482, only 7.4% down on v1. Kanojo X v2 sells 2,554 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 12.6% on v1 wk1 BD. KoreZom 2 sells 2,086 BDs, DVDs do no rank. Down 16.9% on v2 in a rather large tumble. Closer to v1 wk1 though. Natsu-iro v2 sells 2,018 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Down 34.6% on v1 wk1 BD and since DVDs didn't rank, they must ave dropped by literally half, at least (1,611 last time, threshold 823 this week). Big collapse after the discounted v1, as I kinda expected. Tasogare v2 sells 1,880 BDs, down 8.7% on v1. Being Silver Link is suffering, apparently. Hiiro v2 sells 1,637 DVDs, BDs may not rank. Up 24% from v1 wk1 DVD, but BD thresholds might be too high this week. Sankarea v2 does not rank on BD and only has an estimate on DVD of 300. Unranked in either format: Medaka Box v1: 483-823 DVD range, BDs unranked. Shining Hearts v1: 309-483 DVD range, BDs unranked. Winter update: Nisemonogatari v4 sells 43358/7737 for 51,095. DVD first weeks have risen every volume so far, and BD first weeks rose from 2>3 and 3>4. Second weeks get smaller, but v4 should get to at least 55-56k and all told it's gone 64.2k → 58.8k → 56.7k → 51.1k (55-56k?) and that's nicely consistent. InuBoku v5 sells 3864/4444 for 8,308, up 1.3% on v4 wk1. I guess it's bottomed out now - lower than I'd have liked, but oh well. Still should be a 10k average series. HS DxD v5 sells 6532/2193 for 8,725. Aquarion Evol v4 sells 4676/1322 for 5,998, down 8.7% on v3 wk1. AnoNatsu v5 sells 5,574 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Up a bit 10.2% on v4 wk1, but v4 has an oddly small wk1 and big wk2 so it all ought to balance out to more of the same consistency. Figure 600-700 next week bringing it in line with v4. [Update: about 315 DVDs, total 5,890.] Symphogear v5 sells 3,404 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Maybe we'll get a >100 estimate like last volume. DVD sales have been very consistent for this show, though. Max 3631 (v1 not counting wk2), min 3404 (v5). Lagrange v5 sells 2,435 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Up 5% on v3 wk1. Another v5 sells 1,889 BDs, DVDs do not rank. ZnT F v6, final volume, sells 1,636 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Final average: 2,269. Brave10 v5 sells 1,340 DVDs, BDs do not rank. Past seasons: Gintama' v13, final volume, sells 10,235. It'll add on more but current final average is 12,475, right on par with season four. Persona 4 v9 sells 15678/6399 for 22,077. Up slightly on DVD but down on BD. Off 3% wk1 from v8 total, not bad. Guilty Crown v7 drops a bit to 4726/1332 for 6,058. Down 10% on v6 wk1. Shana III v8, final volume, sells 2576/1018 for 3,594. Final average, 3,897. Low, but consistent. Ah well. Last Exile Fam v7, final volume, sells 2,432, up 10.8% on v6 wk1. Final average, 2,657. Mirai Nikki v8 sells 1,534 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Gundam AGE v6 sells 1,523 BDs, DVDs do not rank. OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc: HidaSketch BD Box sells 4,027. Quiiiiiite respectable! Very happy to see that. It even manages to sneak into the ¥100m list despite a lower than usual MSRP. Most 1 cour boxsets are about ¥30,000 or more. 30) ¥*120.4m (*2,509 * ¥48,000) - Saki 31) ¥*111.6m (*3,322 * ¥33,600) - Ookami to Koushinryou 32) ¥*101.5m (*4,027 * ¥25,200) - Hidamari Sketch K-ON! Movie adds 6427 BDs (better than Soundscan actually) and 3069/2846 DVDs for 152,468. The BD number is weak but DVDs add almost as much to give it a modest boost. But it's really, really, really wk1 front-loaded. Haruhi had twice as big a BD wk2, and Nanoha 1st even had a bigger BD wk2 despite having about half as many BDs wk1. I guess virtually everyone preordered it. Time for the between-season v1 drought. We won't see another until Saint Seiya Omega and Upotte both sell virtually nothing at the end of August. If the BD version of this charts at all then you'll know how much copies was sold exactly from Animate across Japan. They seem to have some sort of exclusive deal as being the only Japanese store to be able to release the series on BD.

I have no idea but in case you wanted to know, those who purchase all three volumes of their BD exclusive release will have the chance to buy tickets for a live event held by Animate with most of the cast of the anime series. It's gonna be held in November. As shown with how ticketing purchases was done for the live events for Working'!!, many will probably buy the BD purely to have a chance to buy tickets to the event and sell off the BDs after. Maybe that would help increase sales and give possible profits for Animate's exclusive deal.
I also wonder if the issue of the original manga author Higa Aloha suspending her work on the series has anything to do with it. According news sites and her twitter, her editors on Flowers magazine were giving approvals to the character designs and the scripts of the anime without her permission. She did emphasize that the anime production staff have done nothing wrong and thanked them for it. Perhaps there's a contract dispute behind the scenes on whether she's receiving any royalties from sales of the home video release for the anime, and that may have prevented a BD contract that was currently being made (and Animate's one may have already been signed while the other stores were in progress). According to her twitter also, she has not received any contracts for the anime. Some posters are saying she may have signed away her rights to those when she signed with the publishing magazine that gives them the right to have an anime be made without her knowledge. I dunno. It's all speculation but it is definitely weird with how a BD release for this anime is only available from one chain of an anime hobby store. Don't know if it's happened before to any other series for this video format.

Not that I'm aware of. Animate is covered by Oricon, so there is the potential that we'll see it, but with thresholds being so high I don't know that we will. I suppose I shouldn't underestimate the allure of Ono D, Kamiya, Fukuyama, Nakamura and friends though.

Kadokawa posted their top 10 book properties for the first quarter of the fiscal year (April through end of June) and the Kotenbu series came out on top! 01) Koten-bu series (Hyouka) 02) Biblia Koshoten no Jikentecho 03) Thermae Romae 04) Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha 05) Sword Art Online 06) Bouhan Tantei Enomoto 07) Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai 08) Accel World 09) Toshokan Sensou 10) Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai SAO will almost definitely be the top for the next quarter. It's had all 10 volumes in the rankings two weeks in a row. Also haha, Nanoha. That series will live forever. Feels like it's got 30 iterations going at any one time.
