What the fuck is Ryubi/Liu Bei doing in my gender-swapped Japanese historical figure show? And I was briefly worried that Ryubi was going to turn into a boy.
Anyway, that was sweet.

- Ryuubi loves to ring the bell…but she pays for that.
- I like the shower scenes in this anime. - Ryuubi can be quite convincing, isn’t she. - Oh! My window is so clean; I can see the stars now. - Ryuubi curse is transferred to Nobunaga. What Nobunaga will do? - That was not a problem at all for her. She’s back to normal…quite fast. Why was Ryuubi in this anime? I wonder. Most importantly, she gave us a pretty sweet episode.

..... ;_;
Was really not expecting such a downer of an episode from my happy genki Sengoku Collection. It was a nice sweet episode and then.... Angel died of overwork trying to get money for a ticket for Yoshitsugu to fly there. Damn. And, uh, not a single bit of this episode took place in Japan.

Episode 17:
- How very Horie Yui. - When the sun sets, Liu Bei turns into a pig? - The komonomimiko trio sure get around. - Crabby old woman is only nice to pigs. - Liu Bei is so Minorin-y. - Oda Nobuta! That ended up being pretty sweet.

Episode 18:
- Yoshitsugu just wanted to go bowling. ;_; - Yoshitsugu just wanted some white bread. ;_; - Interesting canvas-like background art. I mean it's all still ghetto production values to the max, but the show tries to cover it up with decent tricks from time to time. I like this one. - Four leaf clover! ...does not give her any luck at all. That's a really dumb place to put your single power cord that controls the entire production line. - Her letter gets a reply! But who is writing back? - This is so cute... - ...so of course things take a turn for the worse. She doesn't get to visit Angel. ;_; So is the old woman Angel? Hmm. - Fffffuuuuuuuck. Angel worked herself to death to get Yoshitsugu the plane ticket. That's... fuck. ...Wow. This show is already a hell of a lot better than it'll ever get credit for. But then sometimes it just goes way above and beyond even that and really delivers something phenomenal. This was absolutely one of those episodes. Damn.

Goddamn. That was good.
So Akechi Mitsuhide, in the role of Akechi Kogoro, solves a murder where she's the criminal, and the murdered person was Nobunaga. Not that its so simple, of course. Really well done, and I can't wait to see the "OS" side next week.

God this show is weird. It all kinda sorta makes sense at the end, when they reveal not just that its a play (which was not surprising) but what the point of the episode was.
I never did get around to finishing Mouryou no Hako, but the show was giving me vibes of that show (and Summer of the Ubume, a book I did finish that was the first in the series of novels Mouryou no Hako was a part of) but I couldn't place what would make me think that, as it didn't have any of the quirks of the main characters or anything else that would make a tangible similarity or connection. The end reveal about the self-delusion does strongly resemble some elements of Summer of the Ubume though. And the way this show used a play (sort of) to deal with Mitsuhide's amnesia reminded me of Touka Gettan's flashback episode. Even when you know what the episode was aiming for and the mystery is revealed, it still one of the stranger episodes. It plays the mystery straight but it has all these bizarre little things, like the synchronized toothbrushing in a classroom, Mitsuhide paying for the ramen with the confiscated money, the cat sliding down the roof, the guy videotaping everything, and the whole bizarre reveal with Kibayashi. Anyway, between the rice episode, last episode's not-at-all-connected-to-anything-else depression bomb, and this episode reminding me of Touka Gettan AND Mouryou no Hako/Summer of the Ubume in one shot, this is officially one of the, if not THE, weirdest shows I've ever watched.

From Oda Nobuna to Hakuouki to SenColle. Japanese history anime marathon!
Episode 19: - Finally it's Mitsuhide time. Hikasa Youko~ - A naked headless corpse. That's a way to start. - And unsubtle hints that her companion is the killer? Or likes creepy masks anyway. Or just intentional misdirection. - There are some really weird character designs in this episode. >_> - Why is Hanazawa voicing another girl who looks almost exactly like her Ieyasu role? Not that I need an excuse to hear some HanaKana. - Tanaka Atsuko~~ - Kibayashi is Morilanty after all. And Morilanty is Kibayashi! - Oh, haha, wow. This is actually a pretty cool twist. It's not a headless corpse after all. - Ohhhhhhhh. Christ. Hahah, goddamnit, no wonder HanaKana's charter looked exactly like Ieyasu. SHE WAS. I was totally taking it at face value that this episode was what it said it was, oops. ![]() - But wait it's not actually a play after all! It's a mystery within a play within a dream! Okay that was really awesome.
