Dude! This is getting out of hand! We have upcoming releases of MACROSS TV SERIES, MACROSS MOVIE, YAMATO SERIES and now this??? My wallet may not survive.

Seriously though, it seems like we've gone from a drought of nothingness for classic anime on BD to an outright avalanche.

Keep it coming!!!

Wow, I was just watching an ep of Gatchaman (well, just the OP/ED since it was upscaled crap) last night from one of Tokyo MX's rebroadcasts of classic anime, wondering when a BD box would come out.

But damn, Tatsunoko's releasing a shitload of stuff I want. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more boxes from other companies starts coming out in the next year or two, since they'll probably want to do it sooner rather than later due to talks of the consumption tax being raised from 5% to 10%. An extra 5% isn't a big deal for a single disc, but it can definitely raise the price of box sets by a good bit.

I just hope these are all new film scans and not cheap upscale cash-ins for their 50th anniversary. Actually, now that I watch the YouTube trailer, that might be exactly what these are. Gatchaman and Time Bokan look like newer masters (still possibly SD though), but Mach Go Go Go and Casshan look like old LD upscales.

I'd definitely wait for reports/reviews for any of these Tatsunoko boxes before buying.

Mach Go Go Go and Gatchaman look like they're not upscales. Not 100% sure on Yatterman, but I don't see why that series would be the only one to be an upscale (they clearly used a component master at least).

The only one I want from Tatsunoko this year is Gatchaman, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to squeeze it in in October. There's a lot of box sets I want and I've still got a considerable backlog.

Well after watching the second trailer just now, I am excited for the Mospeada box again. The listings on the website for the boxes and amazon list everything as 1080i so I am hoping that was incorrect because the overzealous announcer says they are new HD telecines and are different to old releases. The comparison bits look fantastic, the new HD master has that nice cel look to it and thankfully, grain is intact.

I would love to buy a couple of the boxes, especially Gatchaman, but with those prices I will only have Mospeada for sure. Mirai Keisatsu Urashiman is also a must! Just have to save $500+ to buy it... I almost cancelled Mospeada when I read all the "1080i" specs but I have hope for a nice new HD remaster now. Just a shame there is not a single spec of Mospeada footage in either of the trailers released so far.

It's a shame the boxes look so plain and well, lame.

Okay this is crazy. Also this is a prime example of why Giant Robo BD Box is overpriced. 7 episodes vs 105eps yet they are pretty much the same price.

If by "pretty much the same price" you mean Giant Robo costs less than half as much, then sure. Not to say that Giant Robo isn't expensive, but each Giant Robo ep is twice as long as a TV series episode and longer than a lot of theatrical anime releases. Even if it weren't, Gatchaman is highly episodic children's anime (albeit nicely animated). If you've seen one episode, you've pretty much seen them all. One Giant Robo episode is easily worth 10 or so Gatchaman episodes IMO. I'd like to buy them both but for now I'll just be getting Giant Robo.
