Is there any special promotion going on or something? Or did the last episode just boost it that much?
Usually shows that tend to sell well boost near their release dates (it comes out on 2012/09/05) for the first volume. As is becoming the norm, the first volume also comes with an event ticket. The Wakana arc really got a lot of people interested in it and so people decided it was a show they wanted to own and just spiked the Amazon orders this week. Those factors and that it's only 6 volumes at 7,140 (1-5)/8,400 (6) help combine to make a decent selling show.

Personally, I don't think it'll hit 15k, but it'll easily get above 10k and could end up averaging that.

And Kuroko tops 20k.
Release Totoro on BD: DVD sales go up and nobody (relatively) buys the BD. Uhhhhhhhh. Okay. Man DVD lists are almost all movies lately. They've become so boring. Wish we had top 30 animation BDs. That would actually be helpful.
Thursday adds a few, including the SoraOto movie, heh. Pretty much all those sales are from Amazon discounting it. Also yay, second week for Mouretsu.

Spring update:
Saki Achiga v3 sells 4,162 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Blah I do not want to see it drop below 4k opening weeks. Especially because there's little chance it'll get second weeks anymore with coming out in the second (more or less) week of the month and having competitive weeks following it.

KuroBas v1 adds 508/860 for 20,524.

Winter update:
Nisemonogatari v4 adds 648 BDs in wk4, total 57,486, or 1% up on v3.

Mouretsu v6 adds 414 BDs, total 6,948. Still averaging 7k, good stuff.

Past seasons:
Persona 4 v9 adds 488 BDs for 25,907.

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
K-ON! Movie adds 905 BDs and 926 RE DVDs in wk5. Total 161,342.

Next week, Saint Seiya Omega. Upotte!! the week after. The week after that, the first Summer shows: Tari Tari, Oda Nobuna, and Moyashimon.

The first BD (and DVD) of Yuru Yuri♪♪ seems to have had a huge jump in the past few hours. I don't think it was due to the recent episode, so I can only imagine there must have been some incentive added to make otaku want to preorder it. Anybody have any idea what was added?

Event ticket. Saw the news a couple days ago that the event would be happening, so I've been checking Stalker to see when it would bump. Right on cue with the confirmation.

Hopefully that helps the first volume have a slightly less pitiful drop than it was on track for, but I'm still setting a high end of 5k, and expect later volumes to be maybe 3k. Ah well, that just happens to sequels sometimes. At least we got the sequel in the first place. Main revenue for YRYR is probably merch now anyway.

Speaking of event tickets... I've been meaning to post a list of what summer shows are getting event tickets or discounted first volumes. I don't know if the following is complete, so feel free to help me fill in the gaps:

Event Ticket only
• Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu Utakoi
• Dog Days'
• Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita
• Joshiraku
• Muv Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
• Oda Nobuna no Yabou
• Tari Tari
• Yuru Yuri♪♪

Discounted Price only
• Binbougami ga! (-¥3,150)
• Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II (-¥2,100)
• Moyashimon Returns (-¥1,890)
• Natsuyuki Rendezvous (-¥1,050)
• Sword Art Online (-¥1,050) (see note 1)

Both Ticket & Discount
• Campione! (-¥3,150)
• Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate (-¥3,150)

Neither
• Arcana Familia (see note 2)
• Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai.
• Ebiten: Kouritsu Ebisugawa Koukou Tenmonbu
• Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica
• Hakuouki Reimeiroku
• Kokoro Connect (see note 3)
• Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!
• Rinne no Lagrange season 2

Man that is a crapton of event tickets. 10 different series, possibly more to be announced later or that I missed. Vol. 2 is probably going to be ugly for KoiChoco and Campione, considering they're selling very poorly as is.

Obviously there are incentives besides event tickets and discounts, but those are the two that tend to (but don't always) obviously affect sales.

Note 1: Included Sword Art Online it here because I expect it's the only one at ¥7140, with the rest of the volumes being ¥8190. I doubt that'll have a noticeable affect on sales though.
Note 2: Oddly, Arcana Familia has the event ticket in volume 2, not 1.
Note 3: Kokoro Connect has a Vol 1 that is cheaper than Vol 2, but it's more a case of switching back and forth between 2 ep and 3 ep MSRPs like Bakemonogatari. There are other volumes with a ¥6090 MSRP, not just Vol 1.

Very informative list, thanks for posting it! I really think the committee behind Kokoro Connect would be making an error if they don't have a live event like the other shows. It has what I think to be one of the largest disparity in terms of percentage of BD and DVD stalker points. And typically it's those BD-heavy (or DVD-heavy for fujoshi) shows that get a large boost for a live event from what I have seen.

Well, SAO is only discounted because it's 2-episodes for the first disc and the rest will probably be 3. So it's not really so different than Kokoro Connect in that regard. To me, I'm not really sure if I even count that as a discount in the sense that it's just the normal pricing based on the amount of content (in terms of price/episode, it's actually higher). I suppose the only thing is that they're putting the 2-episode disc on the front-end rather than as Vol. 9. In that sense, you might also kinda sorta consider Dog Days' volume 1 as "discounted", because it's the only disc that'll have 3 episodes and the rest will have 2.

That's why it's the only one in the discount group I gave a note to. I'm using a very strict definition of "discounted" (just to make categorization easier) where Vol. 1 is less than all the other volumes (except maybe the last but that's rare). It's pretty normal for a cheaper first volume to have less eps. It really seems like the MSRP matters more than what's on the disc when we talk about sales drops (or sales increases, depending on how you look at it). AKB0048 and NatsuKise for recent examples.

But yes, I know SAO is a much more borderline case because the discount is pretty nil. I'm just lazy and this required less thought (though this reply took 10 times as much effort as I saved so that didn't work out to well. )

Ebiten presents an interesting situation, similar to Upotte.

Ebiten started broadcasting during the Summer season, but only on Niconico, and only in very low quality. It seemed to make virtually no impact and the Vol 1 BD never went above 4,000th place.

Just today it was announced that it will air on multiple TV stations (http://ebiten.jp/entry/1089) and will start right alongside Fall series in October. In addition, the BD release is really late - November 30th, which is very late for a Summer series, and more in line with a Fall series.

With the TV announcement, the first volume shot up from 22,314 to 580 in an hour and is currently 302, having peaked at 283.

I'm half tempted to treat it as a Fall series for the purposes of reporting, but I'm not sure, because I didn't do the same with Upotte. That title was also internet-only, later getting a TV broadcast announced, and came out late for its season (August 31 for a Spring show).

What to do... maybe I'll just leave it in Summer. That is its first airing after all.
