That was about what I expected from the third series of this franchise. Nothing special, but I'll keep watching. It's not like I've been waiting for more Kugimiya tsundere. B-Baka.

I also like how MAL claims this still hasn't started airing.

Nagi has an imouto! Allegedly, anyway.
Tsugumi Ruri is, as far as I know, a completely new character and she's adorable with an evil streak. She's like an evil version of Tsumiki from Acchi Kocchi, but with Takayama Maria's voice. She's *fantastic* in her fairly brief appearance here, so I expect very good things from her in the rest of the show. Really like the Ruka-centric ED. I'm hoping for Ruka to have a decent role in the show, other than just symbolic narrator and background idol. I've been assuming she'd have a significant role since she was shown in the PV. The episode wasn't nearly as hilarious as previous Hayate show's were at the best but I got lots of Nagi (who I love), a pretty amusing variant on Nagi's kidnapping from when she and Hayate first met, and a wonderful new character. I'd say it was a fairly good episode. My main gripe is that Nagi getting the drink and taking the sip had some rather bizarre timing.

That was a pretty fantastic first episode. It was basically a slight callback to the first chapters of Hayate no Gotoku what with the kidnapping and it ended similarly, but it had a few very interesting twists.
I like that they were just doing a regular old Hayate thing, Nagi being tsundere, Hayate being passive and Maria being "oh my.." and then it introduced Ruka, who is a reletively recent character in the manga, and a fantastic character at that even if she was all mystical in this introductory episode. Still a singer though. There is also a new character in this episode, blue hair, really short and she appears just as Nagi is kidnapped. Nagi gets kidnapped, as usual, and Hayate saves her in a similar way to how he did in the introductory two chapters of the manga, he rides on another characters bike, in this case the new girls bike, and jumps on/crushes the car. The jump and the landing on the car looked really nice, so good job to Manglobe on that. The episode in general had a really nice look to it even if the animation wasn't the smoothest out there, but I wasn't expecting the smoothest animation ever, I was expecting Hayate and I got that. I know a few have issues with the designs, but read recent chapters and they're pretty spot on. After Hayate saves Nagi from the kidnappers we find out that the girl that Hayate borrowed the bike from, Ruri Tsugumi, is a part of the Sanzenin family and is Nagi's little sister, or so she claims. Overall, I loved this episode. Great little callback to the beginnings of the series, I found it really funny, and I love the characters as usual. This is most definitely locked for importing. |

I hope she is a big part of the series. I love Ruka and giving her only one scene in the movie with Nagi was tragic.

So is this series starting from scratch or is it a sequel? If so I may start watching it...

I guess the best answer is it's not starting from scratch, but it's not a sequel to season 1 or 2 if you know what I mean. |

That was...ok...?
Nagi, Hayate and Maria were rather shockingly unfunny, Nagi especially. Hayate was pretty cool when he was being cool though, and Ruri is amazing. Hopefully they know what they're doing with thiss.

It was, uh, Hayate. Couple scenes made it extremely clear it takes place in the future (from current manga timeline). But other stuff seemed out of place... One aspect annoyed me. Maybe it's supposed to be ambiguous so both anime-only and manga readers can enjoy it?
Ruri seems to be a great character. I just wish Hata would stop creating so many great ones (since they tend to not get the focus they deserve).
