SIREN LICENSES UN-GO

22 Sep 2011

Normal 0 false false false EN-AU X-NONE X-NONE

Siren Visual is proud to announce the licensing of the forthcoming anime franchise UN-GO. The 11 part TV series will be streaming on Anime News Network in conjunction with airing on Fuji TV’s noitaminA slot, beginning in Japan on October 13.

UN-GO (pronounced ‘ango’) is a detective story set in a futuristic, post-war Tokyo. The control of the media’s infrastructure is in the hands of Rinroku Kaishou and through his power he is able to influence Tokyo’s massive economy, from the political to the industrial arenas. A highly intelligent man, Rinroku has been able to solve a lot of mysteries himself through his own deductive reasoning, and with the vast information he has within his reach. But is he really acting alone?

In this day and age, classic detective work is seen as passé, the individual’s reasoning no match for modern technology. Shinjurou Yuuki, the ‘Last Great Detective’, is consequently known to the public these days as more of a failed detective. Despite this, Shinjurou has no choice but to follow his own intuition as it defines who he is. Working alongside him (and sometimes against him) is a young, sharp-witted cute kid named Inga. Despite both power and public perception, it is actually Shijurou and Inga’s passion that is solving the biggest cases out there…including the ones Kaishou is credited for.

Director Seiji Mizushima, writer Shou Aikawa and anime studio BONES; the team behind megahit Fullmetal Alchemist, reunite to create another new major work: UN-GO. Whilst following the spirit of Ango Sakaguchi's Meiji-era Meiji Kaika Ango Torimonochou, UN-GO boldly shifts the setting to the near future.

Also featuring character designs helmed by illustrators pako (Scared Rider Xechs) and Yun Kouga (Mobile Suit Gundam 00).

Siren CEO Eric Cherry says of the license, “everyone at Siren has been anticipating UN-GO since we learned about it. BONES is behind some of the strongest anime franchises in history and so we feel a humbling sense of responsibility to present UN-GO to the Australian audience in a way that will appeal our existing customers and help us reach new ones.”

Announcement time!
You may have caught it during last year's stream via Anime News Network and here it is to enjoy on DVD: UN-GO...

He pursues his job as the "Last Great Detective". Others call him the "Defeated Detective". What's certain is that he's Shinjurou Yuuki, a young man with a passion for mysteries and a talent for solving them that has made him the target of dark forces now stirring within the sinister underworld of a near future Tokyo. That could prove lethal, given that not even the other "good guys", including the police, are exactly on Shinjouro's side. Fortunately Yuuki's not completely on his own, and with the aid of his uniquely talented associate Inga, he's ready to cut a swath through the veils of secrecy that have been laid before him. Get ready for mind against matter and a lot of cloak and dagger as the ultimate battle of clue and deduction begins in UN-GO!

The Fullmetal Alchemist team of Seiji Mizushima, Shou Aikawa and BONES reunite to bring us this great noitaminA whodunit!

Available on DVD this August!

How about we trade you this good news for some house-keeping matters regarding a title we'd scheduled for August. It looks like we'll be including an English dub with UN-GO, so that means we've had to delay its release for a couple of months. If you've pre-ordered and won't forgive us and want your money back, drop us an email and we'll sort it out. Keep in mind that you forfeit your pre-order poster privileges, but we totally understand. Keep your eyes peeled for news on that one.

We'd tried the sub-then-dub release strategy in the past and the uptake wasn't spectacular. Let's get it right first time 'round, eh?

it'll likely be October, but we're still waiting for some news before we can confirm.

http://www.sirenvisual.com.au/Product/436.php | Note: I'm assuming that the Product Specification missed adding the English dub.
