Girls und Panzer Blu-rays to Have Original Anime Shorts
posted on 2012-10-05 00:00 EDT

12-minute short in each BD; 1st BD to bundle box drawn by Strike Witches' Shimada

The official Twitter account for the Girls und Panzer television anime series announced on Friday that every Japanese Blu-ray Disc volume of the anime will include an all-new original video anime short. Each short will be about 12 minutes long.

Bandai Visual will ship the first volume on December 21. The first edition of that volume will bundle a box for the entire series, and the anime's original character designer Humikane Shimada (Strike Witches, Sky Girls) illustrated the box.

Also bundled is a 32-page collection of Shimada's original character designs, and an advance entry form for tickets to an event on April 28, 2013. Voice actresses Mai Fuchigami (Miho Nishizumi), Ai Kayano (Saori Takebe), Mami Ozaki (Hana Isuzu), Ikumi Nakagami (Yukari Akiyama), and Yuka Iguchi (Mako Reizei), and others are scheduled to appear at the event.

Update: There will be six volumes total, and the first volume's original video anime short is titled "Water War." The first volume will also have a 20-minute sound drama of characters' self-introductions, television commercials, the first two-minute promotional video, two audio commentaries by three staff members and three cast members, nine character playing cards and an exclusive booklet whose cover is illustrated by character designer Isao Sugimoto.

Well, this show is a possible import. Normally, I tried to import only 2, but this can be the third if the show is amazing... Extras like a box, anime shorts and a 32-page collection of Shimada's original character designs sure makes the import a higher possibility.

Default Expected to be short on stock

https://twitter.com/garupan/statuses/268316586140635136

Just FYI, the official Girls und panzer Twitter account has noted that anyone who wants to get this disc on time would be well advised to put their preorders in ASAP. Yes, already, a month and a half before release.

Now, I imagine this message is directed mostly at retailers, but obviously it has implications for buyers too. And I think buyers are taking it to heart because at the moment it's outselling Gundam UC on Amazon... If you've been following its preorder rankings, you've seen the meteoric rise this series has had in the past few weeks. It even has a chance of being the best selling show of the season, although I have suspicions it's going to be heavily overestimated by Stalker, like Tari Tari. Still, it will sell well even if so.

The dilemma for me is that I won't be ready to put in my December order for another two weeks. I guess this is one way to use up those HMV points I otherwise have no use for...

Thanks for the heads-up. Great to see Mädchen und Panzer :D doing so well (probably), never expected this. Of course i also didn't expect it to be any good anyway, and now it's my favorite show of the fall season (so far).

I've included the first three volumes in my december and february Amazon orders during the recent 30% discount offer . The december batch should be delivered the week after the holidays, can't wait for christmas this year. LOL

Bandai Visual has noted release date updates for Vol.2 (1/29 to 2/22) and Vol.3 (2/22 to 3/22).

It's probably safe to assume that the subsequent volumes (at the moment Amz JP have them as -> v.4: 3/22, v.5: 4/24, v.6: 5/28) are delayed a month as well.

Vol.1 release date did not get changed.

EDIT: http://girls-und-panzer.at.webry.inf...rticle_22.html

- Vol.4 (3/22 to 4/24)
- Vol.5 (4/24 to 5/28)
- Vol.6 (5/28 to 6/21)

The staff explained that the delay was to ensure the quality of the Blu-ray volume's original video anime short, "Survival War!"

Well, this is as good a reason as any. A shame volumes were delayed, but it would be worse if the first volume were delayed, since I've already ordered it.

Good enough reason. I'll be ordering more CDs in January.
