Anime Sales in Japan - 2012

While it hasn't been all that long I'm surprised as hell that Garupan hit its highest ranking on Stalker after what I'm pretty sure is a recap episode. I thought for sure it would fall a bit, but it actually climbed all the way into the top 5!

I'm sure it is going to be overestimated but I'm almost certain this is way more of a hit than Actas and the committee could have even dreamed. Hell, it's almost certainly going to easily outsell Saki. I'm thrilled since it's easily in my top 3 for favorite series of the season.

Someone on MAL noted that it's probably got something to do with this, but yeah even before that it was in the top 10.

I've been trying to find preorder numbers for Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo. It's one of my three favorites this season and I hope it does well but I can't find it on any rankings. Does anyone here think it will do well or become a flop this season?

So far, not good. Estimates are ~2.5k total DVD+BD at current pace. Bit of a shame because I'm liking it more every episode.

Opening weekend for Evangelion Q, third installment of Rebuild, is ¥1,131,004,600 on 224 screens. Yes, over a billion yen in the opening weekend. lol Evangelion. Now we sit back and see if it can top Ha's ¥4bn. I have a feeling I'll be updating this post for a long time.

Getting near four and a half billion with ¥4,491,955,312 after its 5th weekend. Currently it's #4 on the Japanese yearly box office list, though a good deal separates it from #2 and #3, then a bigger jump to #1, so this might be as far as it goes.

Somewhat impressive early rankings for Teekyuu a couple days after initial solicitation, considering I expected absolutely nothing from it sales-wise. Didn't realize it was 12 2-minute episodes, so it's only a single ¥3000 disc:

I'm sure it'll drop but it was registered on the 16th, started in the top 100, dropped a little to around 200, then came back to the top 50.

As for Chuunibyou, Vol. 1 BD chart here with episode numbers added. Episode 7 was the big "hey this show is a serious drama sometimes too!" episode with a dramatic cliffhanger and was also the beach episode. And yet this marks the first time the title has been out of the top 50 (if only barely) since the beginning of November. Hardly bad of course. I'm just surprised the first episode to drop it below 50 was, of all things, that most recent episode. Maybe it's just because the episode 6 bump was so high and so long-lasting that it all evens out. Hoping to see it back in the top 20-30 again after the next episode. It's still on track to pass Darkness in BD points within a few days.

And Girls und Panzer continues to smash the competition. It's fallen a good bit from its top 5 showing, but it's still #21 right now, well ahead of any other Fall shows, and over 6k Stalker points on BD (DVD is a non-factor).

Magi is also building up steam, with BD+DVD combined 3,420 points despite the late solicitation, strong rankings at Animate, and its DVD in the Amazon top 100.

Nothing else particularly interesting going on at the moment.
