Viz Omnibus list: One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist

As some of you may know, Viz has been re-releasing some of their major manga Such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist in 3-in-1 Omnibus or Omnibus like editions.
If anyone wants to buy these long running or re-released series for any number of reasons, than this would be cheaper than buying the individual volumes (except for a few exceptions that may have complete box sets of the manga or anything else that could work out to be cheaper than buying these editions).

What, of these editions would you buy, or have bought?

but there's way more omnibus' Viz has released/is releasing other than just these

Dragon Ball/Z, Evangelion, Rorouni Kenshin, Death Note (sort of), and so on



and that doesn't even get into me wondering what the point of this thread even is

The point of this thread was that I started buying all four of these series since they were the newest and most well known shounen manga out there. But then they stopped releasing them and I assumed those three volumes, or four with One Piece would be the only ones released, but then more were announced recently (and like most people this time of year, I was flat broke). So I decided I should continue buying only one of the series to minimize my spending and I can’t decide on which one to get. That’s why I made the poll, to get some idea of what people would buy. Anyway you look at it, you are going to spend a TON OF MONEY on any of these series, and I prefer to buy the Omnibus’ since they can be as cheap as a regular volumes of manga. By the way, all of Death Note: Black Edition had been released, same with Dragon Ball Z.

I'll be honest; I didn't understand most of what you even said.

I did get you wanting to focus on just one of those though, so with all listed I'd say One Piece just because it's my most preferred and due to length making it best suited to grabbing omnibus'.



Though overall I'd say Eva's omnibus would be the best recent one to grab. It's far shorter and I'd say better in about every way too. Both in terms of the series itself and the actual omnibus release.

I bought the first couple of Fullmetal Alchemist volumes before subsequently buying the complete box set with all 27 volumes. I've purchased all of the individual volumes for Bleach, Naruto and One Piece, so haven't purchased any of those omnibus editions.

My favorite series out of the four is Fullmetal Alchemist, followed closely by One Piece. Naruto has been really good in places, but not so good in others. Bleach lost me after the Soul Society arc and I only buy it now for a friend of mine who collects the series.

That's good to know. I'm still not sure if I want to get the Eva's omnibus or hunt for the previous release of it...

I'd just say get the omnibus'

It's in print, and the color art is a nice bonus. Plus it has the original coverart for volume 2 as an insert. Outside of that though, I believe everything is more or less the same as the previous release including all supplementary material.

I've never really been big on buying any of these omnibus collection for the shounen manga (though I do fancy omnibus releases when they are available). I'm only currently buying/collecting One Piece, though I may go back and buy Bleach/Naruto once they end their run (which may be sooner than later in Japan).

I've been on the fence about double-dipping for the One Piece omnibus', but I think I may start doing it now that VIZ is going forward with their publications again. I already buy the original JP volumes, the English volumes, might as well go the extra-leg and pick up the omnibus'.

Evangelion's Omnibus would be good to get, but one of the reason I buy the shounen manga is because even thou their is a anime (and its good) but it moves so slow. Manga just feels more natural, with Evangelion, both the movies and show are really good with their pace. My point is watching Evangelion is as smooth and natural as reading it, do you know what I mean?

It looks like this is really just a recommendations thread for you. There is nothing wrong with that, but I think that it should be in the recommendations forum rather than the news forum.

The only things in your poll that I have bought, or will buy, are all of the Bleach volumes except for the first. I did not buy the first because I already had the single volumes. I started reading Bleach just before Viz started the omnibus releases. Now I have to decide if I want to wait for the omnibuses to be released or buy the singles so that I can keep reading. I will probably go the cheaper way and wait for the omnibuses, unless I can find some really good deals on the singles. I do not think that there is any difference in content.

Even though you may not be interested I would like to mention something about the InuYasha Big editions.
The pages in the omnibus volumes are unflipped. The first 37 single volumes are flipped. If you want InuYasha unflipped you must buy at least the first 13 omnibus (Big) volumes. And I did buy them even though I already had the singles.
