I don't think there necessarily was any "mistake" (some who had problems with the first season may pitch it that way), but the original author is involved with the series composition for the new anime. In practical terms, who really knows what that means, but people generally take this as a good thing (though I've probably seen an equal number of cases where the author wanted to use the anime to do something different than the books, and that wasn't always popular either).

Impossible to properly comment on wk1 numbers for GaruPan due to availability though.

There's something strange about this list... why Persona 4 is higher than NMG and SAO? And why Horizon is here when it's BD only?
This is very bad reporting by the blogger. He did not seem to have watched the TV program because otherwise he would have known what data the ranking was based upon, and even if he took some Japanese sites as source he did not do his due diligence because most of the sites mentioned what data the ranking was based on.

In the TV program it was clearly mentioned that the data were based only upon the sales data from the chain of 21 stores of TORA NO ANA. This is why you do not see any KuroBas and why Persona4 is higher than Nisemonogatari. If the data were based on ANIMATE, one suspects it may be KuroBas that would be number 1 instead.

I don't think there necessarily was any "mistake" (some who had problems with the first season may pitch it that way), but the original author is involved with the series composition for the new anime.
I talked about "mistakes" from an objective point of view of studying why a extremely popular series did not sell as much as a lot of people expected, so I am not talking about my personal opinions about the series, but what anime fans, particularly fans of the original LN (who would be expected to be a main source of potential BD buyers just like other LN adaptations), said about the series. I don't really want to go into details here as this is not a thread to discuss the merits and demerits of a series, but common complaints I heard in Japanese forums and blogs include the character designs, particular elements or subplots dropped or not adapted properly, series composition and original things introduced only in anime. The author mentioned that for this season he writes the story (though it may later be further adjusted to become a proper screenplay for anime) and checks the characters. Fans take this as an indication that he is addressing issues they found back in the first season.

Huh. While I didn't read all the novels the anime adapted, I knew enough about them to know that overall, the big picture, the anime was pretty faithful to the novels. The more specific stuff you mentioned I probably wouldn't have caught, but I can totally see fans notice them.

I thought it was the author helping advise the script since the season 1 scriptwriter is back on-board.

Obviously when you factor in DVD this will change somewhat. Like possibly Darkness over Chuu2, though they've been almost dead even on Stalker points for a while. It all comes down to which has better storefront sales there. Hard to say, since they were close on Saturday and Sunday, though Darkness would be expected to be a bit higher since it came out two days later so I dunno. I'm expecting Chuu2, Darkness and Kuroko to all be fairly close on BD, unless Kuroko has another of its 10k+ opening weeks.

GirlPan dropped as the weekend hit, when online stores exhausted their initial shipments, and nobody could find it at B&Ms. I have a feeling we'll never see the full data for v1, and it'll be one of the lower selling volumes of the series for a while unless big rankings next month or in February bring it back and fill in the gaps. Assuming they get their act together for v2, and don't screw that up too like Mouretsu did. With the extra month delay hopefully they sort everything out. I'd guess top seller of the week if it weren't so obviously understocked.

Bebop box might do more than Horizon... it's hard to read those numbers.

Chuunibyou managed to rank every day but presale day for the 12/21 titles, so hopefully we're on track for similar sales to Hyouka. Problem is, it has almost no chance of ranking next week. Many titles from this week don't. Oh well, that's what monthly rankings are for, hopefully. I mean those will be pretty crowded too.

Too bad it's during the holidays though, so there's no way it'll sell enough to actually get on the rankings.
