Confirmed @ TFP forums that it's chipboard artbox packaging (similar to the thickness of BVUSA's Gunbuster vs. Diebuster: Aim for the Top! - The Gattai!! Movie (Blu-ray) release). So it's not thick (like some of the ADV artboxes), but it's not super thin (like select ones from Media Blasters).

This picture shows it perfectly (picture taken by Library-chan - from the same TFP thread):

Can't wait 'till I receive my order for this set. Can't believe I was hesitant upon announcement.

While the artwork looks really nice, the flimsy box makes it a bigger eye sore than it should really be, I must say.

It's time to graduate from here. But there's still some business left.
The only thing better than anime is sports. Get hit hard and you got JACKED UP! Or else it's a C'mon Man!

It's REALLY not that flimsy.
Why is everyone blowing it out of proportion? :/

FUNimation kind of raised the bar for physical box quality. When another company charges more for less, people are apt to get irritated.

No kidding. Well everyone can view flimsy differently, I personally don't consider this flimsy. And it's not that much thinner than the current batches of FUNimation artboxes.

ADV Films (mainly) raised the bar back in the days with their artboxes (singles and particularly their bigger collection releases). Right now virtually none of the chipboard artboxes (regardless of the distributor) will be as thick and as well made as those ADV ones.

Geneon, man, Geneon. Not that I have any experience with ADV boxes except for RahXephon Canon Collection and Welcome to the NHK but I'm fairly sure that Geneon's boxes for Strawberry Marshmallow and Gungrave (the red-ish box that came with a mouse pad) are thicker than the ADV examples (and Funi's Shuffle! box for example) I mentioned. Then again you have the ADV type of box that Kino's Journey got which is basically just thick paper. The type that gets shelf wear just by being looked at. Note that I'm partial to anything Geneon though.

But yeah, every complaint about the thickness of an art box is getting kinda zzzzzz. Wonder how many would complain about the "sturdiness" of Bandai's Lucky Star and Haruhi LE boxes if they were released today, not to mention the My-HiMe box with the very unusual but awesome front.
