From my many hundreds of purchase through Amazon JP I would say I got partial shipping more often than whole. If the size of the order is not big, it may be more likely that they ship the order whole but in the shopping option on the website the default is always to permit partial shipping, unless you specifically pick the option that allows shipping only when the full order is available.
It probably still works that way in Japan. Until about a year ago, Amazon would partial ship everything to overseas buyers even if you clicked the "wait until everything is available" option. You simply could not get them to hold onto anything. Part of an order could ship out a day or two before another item was scheduled to come in stock. Now the only time I see them partial ship is if an item in the order gets delayed, which causes them to automatically split that part of the order off into a separate order and sometimes that causes them to start splitting it into more partial orders.

Default 2012 Yearly Ranking (Top 100)

http://uni.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/anime4vip/1350802208/

We're supposed to get a DVD Top 500 and BD Top 200 later, but last year it came out January 27th so there's another moth to wait, assuming anyone can get their hands on it at all this year. For the record, last year the thresholds were 9,989 for DVD 500 and a little under 8,340 for BD 200. I expect BD to be higher this year.

[+###] means this is an addition beyond the last regular weekly monthly ranking, so most but not all of the numbers you see are fully or partly known from monthly, half-yearly, or preliminary yearly lists. Also, I only added a number for titles I track, i.e. TV series and late night anime movies.

Covers weeks starting 2011-12-12 through 2012-12-03 inclusive. This means all the Fall '12 series with the potential to sell enough will get their complete runs counted with the 2013 list.

There's always the 10k pre-2000 list. Data reporting was pretty different pre-Oricon, which is why I have them separate. Pre-2000 you need to be extra sure the list is including VHS and LD, and it's not always clear.

I've considered going below 10k a few times before, but 10k is a nice round number and I don't know if I want to mix "big hits" with "better than average" 5k series. I could do it as a separate post, though it'd be tricky (by no means impossible) to keep accurate. Maybe in the 2013 thread, but the main reason I'm holding off is that my data only goes back to 2005 + 10k series before then. I wouldn't want to present a 5k+ list until I finish going back to 2000, though I guess I could call it a 2005-Present 5k+ list. For now though, the other sources being provided are better until I have all the data.

Regarding that data, I have a couple more 2005 series to add before that year is done, and its average sales will be in the 2013 thread. But I can already see how things get sketchy even starting back in 2006, but especially earlier. With everything DVD only, thresholds were regularly over 1k, and even successful titles often lacked second weeks. A sales average is only really accurate when every volume ranks a similar number of weeks, or at least two each.

Take the first season of FMP! for example. There are three different averages we could use for it, depending on how you count:

Vol - Version - Week 1 - Week 2 - Volume total

*1 DVD LE 3390 2168 5,558
*2 DVD LE 3376 2733 6,109
*3 DVD LE 4461 4,461
*4 DVD LE 3988 3,988
*5 DVD LE 4133 4,133
*6 DVD LE 4113 4,113
*7 DVD LE 3118 3,118
*8 DVD LE 2433
*8 DVD RE 1099 3,532
*9 DVD LE 2915
*9 DVD RE 1698 4,613
10 DVD LE 2498 2168 6,057
10 DVD RE 1391 6,057
11 DVD LE 2146 2,146
12 DVD LE 3173 3,173

You can process the above these ways:
4,250 - Average of each volume's total, ignoring all caveats
5,297 - Average of each LE + Average of each RE
7,064 - Average of each wk1 LE + Average of each wk2 LE + Average of each RE

The first is simplest, but also ignores the realities of higher thresholds and is absolutely lower than the real number.
The second adjusts for REs, which apparently sold well for FMP, and risks some assumptions to arrive at what is probably a better number. This is the calculation the DVDBD wiki and I both use. At least 3 REs ranked, with reasonably close numbers, so an average is probably fine.
The third adjusts both for REs and missing second week data. This incorporates the most assumptions, but truth be told I would bet it's the most accurate. Nobody uses it because of the extra layer of assumptions required though.

This sort of thing isn't a big problem nowadays. Unlike 5-10 years ago, anime sells much more of its total in the first week unless it's a late bloomer or understocked. Second weeks are small, and many shows get them, and we have monthly rankings to fill in most of the cases where we don't get them, and expect it to be more than a couple hundred copies. Number of weeks ranked is also more consistent now, with shows that get a second week usually getting it for most volumes, while those that don't, don't for most volumes. Averages are calculated from volume-on-volume data that is more consistent.

That wasn't the case as much in the past, where you could get things like v10 LE up there, which would be truly bizarre to see on any show in 2012. But in 2005? Yeah really not all that uncommon. Shows averaging under 5k could still get 1k+ second weeks. I just took a look at 2011-2012 and the only show averaging less than 10k to get 1k (DVD+BD) or more in the second week for every volume is Hyouka, thuogh prbbaly not for every volume. The only show that really looks like a pre-2007 series is the first season of Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, averaging under 5k with 1k+ second weeks except the second week unranked last volume.

All that to say, data really is different at different times and I'm almost hesitant about even going back to 2000 in my spreadsheet, though curiosity will take me there eventually.

BD 100~! BD 100~!

Fall update:
Little Busters! v1 sells 8358/1757, total 10,115. Very nice. Not compared to what people expected a LB! anime could do before it aired, but much better than Stalker's estimates. 10k first week when it's not discounted or including an event ticket app is promising.

Hidamari s4 v1 sells 7306/1610, total 8,916. This is the best first week for any Hidamari season release. Absolutely fantastic, because even if it drops a decent amount for v2 onward, it should still average 7k at worst, and be more than enough for fifth season.

KamiMashita v1 sells 1592/3155, total 4,747.

OniAi v1 sells 2,231 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Busou Shinki v1 sells 2,184 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Kaibutsu-kun v2 sells 1,209 BDs, DVDs do not rank. This is very very odd. BDs dropped only very slightly, but DVDs went from 1237 to below 998.

Chuunibyou v2 adds 1715 BDs, total 16,173.

Shinsekai Yori v2 sells 594 BDs, DVDs do not rank. First volume to rank since we don't have anything for v1.

GirlPan v1 adds 2605 BDs, total 16,155.

TLR Darkness adds 1768 BDs, total 11,982.

Gintama' Enchousen v1 adds 1526, total 11,723.

Unranked in either format:
Sukitte Ii na yo

Summer update:
Sword Art Online v3 sells 25550/6172, total 31,722.
v1 adds 536 BDs, total 43,101, filling in 2,635 over wk 5-9.
v2 adds 572 BDs, total 38,146, filling in 441 in wk 5.

Dog Days' v4 sells 5227/1833, total 7,060. Small increase on v3wk1.

Hakuouki v4 adds 1130 DVDs, total 3,558.

Arcana Famiglia v4 sells 693/1062, total 1,755.

Horizon II v4 adds 3275, total 18,959. Should still hit 20k eventually, even if it takes a monthly or yearly list.

Campione v4 sells 2515/999, total 3,514.

Kokoroko v3 sells 2,066 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

NakaImo v4 sells 1,607 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Dakara Boku wa H v4 sells 1,559 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Hagure Yuusha v4 sells 1,534 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

KoiChoco v4 sells 1,300 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Utakoi v4 sells 714 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Yuru Yuri♪♪ v4 adds 569 BDs, total 5,710, since DVDs didn't rank for this volume due o thresholds the previous week (boo).

Total Eclipse v4 adds 964 BDs, total 4,376.

Past seasons:
Hyouka v7 sells 6969/1045, total 8,014.

Accel World v6 sells 6148/1413, total 7,561.

Aquarion Evol v9, final volume, sells 3992/1206, total 5,198. Final average: 6,322.

NatsuKise v6 sells 1,834 BDs, DVDs do not rank.

Upotte!! v5, final volume, sells 1,238 BDs, DVDs do not rank. Final average: 1,269 on 4 of 5 volumes ranking. It never deviated more than 46 copies.

Shirokuma Cafe v6 sells 998. BDs Animate-only and unavailable.

Uchuu Kyoudai v2 sells 932 BD boxes. It's being released in 16 DVD singles and 4 BD boxes.
