Other than Tamako, her friends and Anko I don't really see much resemblance to K-ON!. All of the older characters are very diverse and look really unique, I've not seen anyone quite like Daisuke Ono's character in a Kyoto Animation work before. Though not to say I don't see what you're getting at, but I feel as if Kyoto Animation's character designs are much more varied than they're given credit. Hyouka looks different from K-ON! and Chuunibyou looks different from Hyouka. Outside of the big-ish eyes and circular mouths I don't see too many similarities in design.
Though for me when it comes to design I judge on the entire aesthetic. Tamako Market is very, very vibrant and its use of colour is amazing so far, way beyond anything else they've ever made in my opinion. Though I do personally prefer Hyouka's realism, I do very much appriciate the route they're taking with Tamako Market. It almost feels like a brighter Abenobashi.
