Chris has never been good at seeing video issues, especially with Blu-ray. He gives freaking upscales A's. He probably sits too far from his display or has vision issues. Whatever the case, you should never give any of his video scores a second thought.

I've been watching this over the last few days(finished the first disc last night) and to be honest apart from the first episode there's barely any issues with banding(or none that I really noticed). I will admit the banding in the first episode can be a bit distracting, and it would have obviously been preferable to not have the issue at all. However I think the issue has been overblown a little.

I've gotten so used to banding from all the recent anime BDs that it doesn't really bother me anymore. I pretend to believe it's just a part of the shows off-beat style. Apart from the banding and slight contrast boost, this is a stunning restoration, the kind i wish all the classic anime series' got!

Besides, what's the alternative: The non-English friendly and 20 (or so) times more expensive Japanese release? No thanks!

Well some people are so annoyed they're apparently returning their sets to Funi...

Michael's Movie Mayhem is listing the LE as "discontinued". So far the various online retailers haven't indicate as such.

However a regular edition (alt SKU; UPC is 704400095467) listing has popped up from a couple online retailers with a MSRP of $64.98.
So it's likely that a regular edition release is coming (with MSRP of $64.98). I'm not sure about the actual release date. So it may be a good idea to pick up the LE if you're still interested.

EDIT: listed @ AAA Anime with no release date.

And the regular edition is now listed @ TRSI (http://www.rightstuf.com/i/fun09545alt). MSRP is still $64.98 and part of the current TRSI studio sale.

I also got the word that the LAIN limited edition set is also sold out at wholesale, but we still have a few of those left in stock and won't switch over to the standard edition until they are gone. And before you ask, the difference between the regular and LE editions of these is the nice chip board box the LE version comes with.

I'm glad this is selling out because it means it sold well!! I personally am very happy with my LE set, the books included are really cool! The transfer could be better but it's to live with.
