I just received this today. I have lots of catching up to do as I haven't had the time to watch season 2 yet, so it will be awhile before I get to season 3.

I'm in the same boat. In fact, I haven't watched the first season in so long I'm thinking about watching it to refresh my memory. Man, it'll take me months to go through every Shana now that they're all out...but I guess she's worth it

...But this outing is plagued with many of the same problems as the previous seasons, including a kind of lackluster overall image quality. While colors are at least decent (and often more than that), everything is very soft, line detail often has stair stepping and banding is also quite prevalent...

So the earlier 05 was from a shot a few seconds later. JC re-used the same line art for that scene later. I've matched these up nearly perfectly with frames on the JP BD v1. There's differences in brightness levels in all of them, but to me the colors seem muted more in Funi's release. I've not seen my favorite JP blogger compare bitrates (and I'm NOT buying Funi's release), so that'll have to wait. Personally I don't like what I see, but I know it won't bug others as much as it does me. (also re-did shots 02/04 to match frames)

Apart from the image being a bit brighter and some slight banding I don't see any other differences... Although the increase in brightness does make it look a little more washed out. Am I missing something else here?

Edit: And with that last scene having a completely different background it begs the question, has Funi been sent broadcast masters?

Wait...something seems off here. Why is that some screenshots show that the Funi release is brighter than the JP release while the others show the opposite. What?

I have to wonder if Funi is being sent inferior masters or being told to master stuff in a way that, while stuff looks decent without comparison, the picture quality isn't as good as the Japanese version to cut down on reverse importation. Maybe that's my paranoia speaking thinking about this.
