Seems like they are working with Kazé to save costs.

Being done by Kaze for Madman will they still have subtitle issues. Taken from This Review.
"There is a significant problem with the subtitles though, and it’s the same problem that Kazé had with their Princess Jellyfish release. While the signs and captions are translated for the English audio, it seems there is an inability for Kazé to show more than one subtitle stream at a time on their discs, which means that for the Japanese audio with translated dialogue subtitles, most of the on screen text and captions are not translated. This means that most of the shop signs, the posters, road signs, and the like are missing. For the most part that’s really just a matter of detail, atmosphere and for the sake of completeness. However there are more than a few moments of plot specific on screen text, mobile phone text messages and shadow character game show titles that aren’t translated." |

Having skimmed through Madman's release (or rather Kaze's disc), the one thing that didn't sit well with me were the hardsubbed karaoke in the creditless OP/ED. I can only pray that it was a licensing requirement otherwise it'd come off as a really stupid decision. Well ultimately it's only for the creditless OP/ED so it's no big deal.
I can live with the subtitle problems since I'm used to importing JP singles (plus I can read some of it), but hardsubs are a huge no. At least this isn't the nightmare that was their Honey & Clover DVD release with hardsubbed signs/text within the show itself which I presume was done by Viz for the US as well. >_> |
