It's disappointing, but I'll still buy it. If I want to watch the show w/o subtitles in the way, I'll just put my import discs in the BD player. If this were a Funi or ADV release, I'd probably pass on it, but I like NISA too much to hold this against them.

I'm worried NISA and the rights holders will learn a new lesson, the hard way.

It's sad that hard subs was stipulated in the contract for a two year old series. It's very shortsighted to do this, instead of letting the Japanese consumer get what they want - complete collections without the extras for a reasonable price. Are the rights holders so paranoid the moment this collection hit the street, sales numbers for the original would plummet for a two year old series?

It s two year old series being rereleased in Japan in a few months as a complete collection.

AS long as the subs aren't hard encoded to the video then i don't see the issue. Probably less than 0.5% of those who watch American Anime Releases do so using the Raw Japanese Video without subs or dub. If it means we get stuff on Blu Ray more often then sign me up. Its not even a conversation worth having.

Vol.1 has a 1-week delay. Series page and NIS America Online Store listing now list April 16th as the release date.

The folks at NISA let us know this week that the April release of the Hanasaku Iroha ~ Blossoms for Tomorrow DVD/Blu-ray Set 1 is going have to be pushed back a few days due to a replicator delay. The new street date is set for April 16th.

And at least the first pressings were not affected. Got my set in today and was able to turn off the subtitles via remote.
