Wow, this episode was fantastic. The pacing, the drama, the transition between current time and flashbacks. This was really well done.

When the tension is simply over "will he be saved this episode, or next episode?" something's not right. ;_; I was far more concerned with Tanabe Ai running out of oxygen in Planetes, because I couldn't see a way out for her, while I knew that roving oxygen bartender Brian was heading to Hibito (and while their intentionally leaving out progress updates on it was necessary for their tension buildup, it still quite annoying).

So they showed us some stuff about Hibito from the past.
The process of learning and training.
Finding Brian on the moon was nice.
Everyone was desperate as the last few minutes of air were running out.
It was lucky that air generator showed up in the last moment.

They're dragging this out, but what we're getting in the meantime is so good I find it hard to complain much.

These things don't always have to go down to literally the last second - or in this case well after. But I'm glad it ended this episode, because this was just barely within the sweet spot still. Stretching it into one more would have been a major painin the ass.

Obviously two of the astronauts would be Brian and Mutta, but I didn't realize Azuma would be the third until we found out that he took command of the Brian unit to send it to the location Mutta indicated. I guess I should've been wondering about that when it showed up there. Anyway, the way it all built up to Hibito thanking Mutta for saving his life, and finally getting to acknowledge him as a brother, along with how it all tied into Brian's situation with his brother, was all very beautiful.

And Damian will be alright in a few months. I was just about to ask if Karen was a sadist when Freddie did it for me.

I know it fits with the more hand-drawn style of this show, but the straight lines all around everyone's eyes look really weird.

Looks like next time we'll be returning to Mutta's side of things.

A good recovery to a couple of bits of bad writing (how they got into the ravine, and Hibito running out of oxygen and still able to get to the rover). "...the moon together, alive!"? Well, "alive" is better than the other options. ^^;

An episode or few ago, there was a silent conversation between Azuma and his boss. Many people were presuming that it was Azuma getting the oxygen bar re-routed to the spot that Mutta had indicated Hibito would be.

I know it fits with the more hand-drawn style of this show, but the straight lines all around everyone's eyes look really weird.

I interpreted the lines as indicating that the guys were on the verge of tears, but holding them back, given the timing of the appearance of those red lines. Solid coloring might have given a different impression. Hard to be certain. ^_^

Brian-03 saved him in his last moments.
Azuma and JAXA were on the same page about their predictions.
The flashbacks were good.
It was nice watching Mutta feeling relieved.
Reunion with other astronauts was touching.
Short flashback from Brian's childhood was nice.
