Yeah, if I fail in my dispute, and have to pay the extra charge, I sure won't be disputing ever again... ;_;

It's interesting that the code used is valid over in Japan.

Exactly what they're hoping for, no doubt. Not that I'd be able to blame you, if you have to pay $75 because they rule against you even though you're right, it'd be impossible to have any trust in the system.

The DHL invoice sent to me had the code 8523.49.5000, but she said that the paperwork from Amazon for the shipment actually had the HTS code as 8523.49.000, which is an invalid code. She seemed to think that someone from Customs probably "corrected" it to .5000.
That's pretty crazy...I remember I called and gave them all the info (including correct HTS code) I was told it would be looked into and I would receive a call or email. Never did and never received anything else from DHL.

Strange that 8523.49.5000 would be used even though you mentioned the description of the package said "DVD items" on it and nothing that would note it's something electronic.

I got an invoice by mail from DHL. That invoice is to pay tax and duty. The package was Hyouka, OAD w/manga Vol. 3. Descriptions of goods is: "Printed Books; Other PST Exemp". The total of the order (minus shipping) is 4000 yen. The amount of the invoice is 12.75. (10$ processing fee + 2.75 GST). The invoice date is January 29. I got the package: January 18, 2013 (I went to DHL to get that package I had nothing to pay back then).

Default "Retry Credit Card" may be needed in rare cases...

Well, yesterday when I got home, I realized that the payment didn't succeed. I use the same credit card since many months, but for some reasons it didn't work on Amazon JP this particular time (and it was not because of Capital One, they never received the transaction). The credit card did work on the third attempts, I wrote to Amazon JP and got this answer:

Quote:
Sometimes a credit card number will experience one or more failed attempts before it is ultimately authorized.
So be sure to "Retry Credit Card" on your Orders page, as fast as possible, when this happens if you don't want your order to ship late.

I've had this problem multiple times. I really hate the page they have set up for retrying your card because I always have to do it multiple times before it appears to work. I put the information in, hit Retry or whatever it says, and the page generally just reloads as is, and gives me no feedback on whether it worked. I wish they'd make it clearer.

When I did it, there was a message on the reload page saying "Important message" in a rectangle. It was saying that they would retry the credit card asap and send me an e-mail if I have anything else to do.

I also had the same problem with "retry payment" on Tuesday too, which is actually quite unusual for me. The timing makes me think that they must have been having system issues at the time. It did eventually go through on the third attempt. I'm not sure if that's what resulted in a few stray items being split into their own shipments, or if that's what would have happened anyway.

All 13 items were shipped in the same shipment for me.

Yeah, interesting. This sorts of one-off item splits are pretty common for my orders that mix books, CDs, and Blu-Rays. It's typically a book or two that end up shipping from another warehouse.

That aside, I had my March order prematurely split today (again, the books and CDs), and it had the same credit card problem again. Worked on the third try, just like last time.
