Unhappy Has Tokyopop canceled Lupin: WMW? (Cromartie Question, too)

Hi, I've been trying to contact them for a while about volume 10 of the second manga series, and how it did not make its January date, and I've gotten really vague answers, including one which suggested that the WGA strike was to blame for any possible delays. So does anyone know what's up with that? Also, does anyone know when ADV plans to publish Cromartie 13? I've been waiting on that one a while, too...

No idea about Lupin (but Rightstuf doesn't list volume 10 so I'd probably be worried) and I'm pretty sure I saw volume 13 of Cromartie in stores a while back. Last I checked it was no longer in stores . . . but I'm not sure how big a print run they made.

The license on Lupin WMW was running out, and as volume 8 and 9 sold only 4% of what they needed to break even (I am not exaggerating, and the amount of sales needed to break even was quite low already), the decision was made not to extend the license. Volume 10+ will not be released.

Well its not too surprising. I only got the first 2 volumes of the original series. It was poorly drawn and hard to follow.

Peter: Couldn't you at least have updated accordingly? It's aggravating waiting that long without letting anyone know, you know.

Yes, it definitely is aggravating if you're one of the few people who buy something and it gets canceled with no announcement. (I'm still annoyed that Kellogg's stopped making Nutri-Grain Almond Raisin cereal after their botched relaunch of its non-sugar version after their misguided attempt to add sugar. They didn't make any announcement either; it just slowly stopped showing up in stores...)

I haven't personally paid much attention to Lupin since it wasn't my series, and wasn't sure what was going on with it until I looked it up in our database today. Volume 10+ are grayed out on the website, but it would be better if the listings were removed entirely. I personally have basically no impact on the way the website is organized, though.

TOKYOPOP is required to notify vendors something like twice a year which books are going out of print and when returns will stop being accepted, so the bookstores can unload their unsold stock if they want. Not many companies are interested in drawing more attention to cancelations than is required.

Mostly as it rarely gains you anything but the few fans who did buy it getting really angry that you're spurning them.

I bought and enjoyed Lupin, but as it was always episodic and not building towards any resolution, I won't cry that it's cancelled.
