Default Need wire headphones for home use

Well, I now only have wireless headphones and it's not the best thing... even more since I live downtown. So I'm looking for headphones for home use. My question is how much should I pay for it? I would use them to listen to a lot of music and watching simulcasts. I would like something that is high quality and would work for a long time. I don't really have a budget, it would only take me more/less time to save for it.

Do you have any suggestions?

In my experience, you get what you pay for with headphones, but not so much if you don't have them hooked up to a decent receiver or headphone amp. You probably wouldn't need a setup that's too expensive, though.

I'm partial to Sennheiser cans, I have the PXC450s (although I rarely use the noise cancelling). You'd probably want to try out as many different kinds as possible and choose the ones you like best, though.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will look to what you suggest and try others that can compare to it.

I second Buster Darkwings post, the equipment being used for the source will determine how good the sound coming from the headphones will be. There is a very audible difference in sound quality when I have mine (Denon AH-D2000's) hooked to my receiver verses attached to my iPod. If you have a good Home Theater/Audio receiver with headphone outputs you should be fine with just adding headphones. Otherwise a Headphone amp of some kind may be warranted.

It's all personal preference but I would look for good closed over the ear cans for better bass and isolation. I don't mind open ear ones as well, but you get less noise isolation with them and awesome bass from open cans seems to be hard to achieve.

$200-$300 range is probably the best range for combination of performance and affordability from the major headphone manufacturers. The Sony MDR-7510 would be good lower priced but quality headphones to look into as well, $140 for a well regarded headphone with a 5Hz-40KHz frequency range.

Thank you for your suggestion as well. I really like to have an idea before going to the store, since like that, I know what to look for! I prefer to have an idea, not only ask to the store employee...

As for the receiver, I will get it at a later date, for now it would be more to use on my computer. But, I want something high quality now, to be able to use it when I'll have a receiver.
