So you download the additional characters to your SSF4 without the need to buy the new disc ? Well for $14.99 and 2 weeks ahead of the disc release i think it's a good deal.

Hmm, if you don't buy the DLC or retail disc, the character tweaks and balancing won't be provided... that kinda sucks especially for me since I'm a Makoto player. They announced the DLC price but not the retail price, I hope it's reasonable because I would like to own the disc or at least wait for it to go on sale/clearance. It will most likely be $30 anyways.

I'm waiting for the full retail PC version; I've wasted enough with two copies of vanilla, Super and half the DLCs..though I might upgrade the console version, but not within the foreseeable future.

Started playing again last night against my boss, and it was horrible. I normally win 80% of my matches with him but this time I lost about 80% of the matches. I guess not playing for over half the year played some kind of role in that. I am also one of those slow starters that will forget how to play/do anything (like write) if I don't do it often. It took me about 3 months of nonstop Makoto playing/training (she's literally at 99% at my character selection stat) to get real good with her, so its going to be just as long to get me back up and running with her but it coincides with June's DLC release.

Don't worry man, Makoto's so good in AE that you at 60% of what you use to be will probably be better than your peak. You can't jump @ Makoto unless you want to lose 40% of your life, fukiage beats everything... you can now c.lk (which now has more range) into ex hayate and if that puts them into a corner you can than proceed to take 40% of their life off. Dashes are so much better, you can dash in and out at will. Her 2nd Ultra is phenomenal now... you can punish nearly every fireball in the game now, most on reaction.. you can punish whiffed moves from across screen now..

I can take rounds of people with AE Makoto I would never take a round off in Super while playing Makoto online. I surprisingly beat this really good Akuma player with her and was like wtf....

Makoto's the character I want to put the most work into once AE hits consoles... atm my playtime in Super is like...

Main - Cammy
Sub Main - Ken
Alt - Makoto, Sakura & Rose

For AE it will probably be...

Main - Ken
Sub Main - Makoto
Alt - Cammy & Sakura

Just bumping this back up to see if anyone is still playing? I've been playing a lot of AE as of late and don't feel I'm progressing anywhere. I'm even at the point of being discouraged and tossing the game aside, but I can't because I wanna learn it, not to mention I just picked up Yun and Yang and they're some fun characters to use. I also ended up buying a Madcatz TE stick, but to relearn how to use that thing just takes up too much time which I don't have anymore (working 12 hours days and nights), so I ended up buying the Hori fightpad and turns out it feels much better for me.

As I've stated, Yun and Yang kept me from dropping the game, but now I just gotta learn proper spacing, bnb combo's, basically the basics. I wanna get to at least a level of being considered decent but I don't plan on going to any tournaments.

I was playing my brother-in-law online, and I was impressed that he was pulling off all these combo's with the regular ps3 controller. I had so much trouble just pulling off a dragon punch > FADC > Ultra with Ryu and he can do it with ease. Anyway, I went online with other random folks and didn't do good at all. I think out of all the games I've played (about 20+) I won only 5-6. So, yeah, I'm that scrubby.

I think the #1 advice I keep seeing is go to training mode? My question is how does that actually work? I would think you're suppose to get better against moving opponents. I usually go to arcade or versus mode and set the difficulty on hardest (and obviously that don't work for me).

Basically you learn the combo in training mode and than try and put it into practice while playing real people. When you keep training to the point where a combo becomes natural and you don't have to think about it is what you want to get to. Learning to do that combo under pressure and not drop it is another thing, for example I play Cammy and if I drop my combo into spiral arrow I can get ultra'd or hit with any combo of choice... I play good Fei Longs and get hit by that retarded combo that works on Cammy, nearly 400 dmg without costing even 1 ex bar.

And even once you get the combo down and can apply it with pressure you still have to know the matchup and open your opponent up.

So I've had the game for about a year + now, and while I feel like I'm getting better I still play crappy lol. While I've come to accept that I have to say it's still fun trying to learn how the game works. I guess you can say I've gotten to the point where I can see my mistakes and see my opponents mistakes, I just can't punish them properly.

My main problem at the moment has been trying to find my main character(s). I've been going through an identity crisis for quite some time now. I've tinkered with Ryu, Ken, Evil Ryu, Oni, Akuma, Guy, Ibuki, Rose, Abel, Yun, Yang, Juri, Cammy, Fei Long, Cody, Guile, Makoto, and C.Viper.

I narrowed it down to Guy, Ibuki, Cody, Rose and then I'm thinking about adding Yun to the mix (but at the same time I'm terrible with Dive Kicks and Yun's combo's in general, but he's a lot of fun). Cody and Rose are easily my best characters at the moment, but Guy and Ibuki easier combo's, at least when it comes to their target combos. I managed to get through most of Guy and Ibuki's challenges. I think I have 2 left for Guy and 3 for Ibuki. For some reason I can't chain Guy's cr.lk's into each other consistently, whereas I can chain his cr.lp's easily.

Anyway, it's only 3 of us that play and while I can beat one easily, it's my brother-in-law that gives me trouble. While I won't say he can keep up with the top players, but I do think he's pretty good at least with these shoto characters.

For the most part I know I need to practice more, but other than that I mainly watch videos. I've really been watching OTinhoso and Kiryu Tsukimaya use Guy, and then I've been watching Sakonoko use Ibuki. I've seen a couple of videos of him using Rose as well, but for the most part I mainly watch Gootecks for Rose play.

What else? I went to Evo 2 weeks ago. First time ever going to Vegas and spectating. I was actually a little disappointed in SF:AE action. Watching UMVC3 was good though, but for the most part I enjoyed my time there. I will handle things a little different when planning out my trips there from here on out though.

Sorry for the long wall of text.

Edit:

Slight update. I decided to leave Ibuki and Yun alone for now. I cannot do Ibuki's target combos consistently (with the way I have my controller setup, I can't anyway) as I thought even though they seem so easy to pull off. I decided to stick with Guy, Cody and Rose for the time being. I may add Juri and Cammy to the mix as well. Then again I may reconsider since I can't do the TK motion all that great. (Main reason I'm staying away from Fei Long since I can't do his chicken wing)
