Default [R2J DVD] Aikatsu!

It looks like the series is DVD only.

Wahoo! I'm highly enjoying the show, so I'll definitely pick it up (thankfully its DVD only so it's cheap).

But, the show is being released in a strange way. It's a monthly release, but after two volumes, the show skips a month. Has any other show done in the past?

Let's see...that's some weird release breaks. I wonder what the rationale is for doing it this way.

Vol.1 (Mar), Vol.2 (Apr)...Vol.3 (Jun), Vol.4 (Jul)...Vol.5 (Sept), Vol.6 (Oct)...Vol.7 (Dec), Vol.8 (Jan), Vol.9 (Feb)

Six episodes a disc after the first. Maybe it's to avoid overtaking the anime, as this eventually would.

The show is slated for 50 episodes? I machine translated one of the volumes after 1 and it mentioned something about a 60min special. Of course 3 episodes + 60 min does not equal 144 min total runtime.

4 cour wouldn't surprise me, that's pretty common for kids' shows. As for the special, I guess it depends. Those are usually not included in runtime, and 144/24 comes out to 6 exactly.

Of course six episodes is pretty generous even for a DVD of a kids' show. So maybe 144 minutes is just a weird way of counting 3 episodes + the extra being the equivalent of about 3 episodes.
