Question: In the Anime Source pamphlet that has come out with releases in the past, there has been a number of show that were listed as coming soon to Blu-ray such as Mushi-Shi, Blue Gender, xxxHOLiC, Black Cat, and Desert Punk. Nothing has been said about them since then. Are they still planning to release the show on Blu-ray?

Answer: Unfortunately they are not. The printing of this (of that) pamphlet was done so well in advance. We were still working on Blu-ray items and last details for those. And with that we though the stuff looks good. Licensors want to work with us. Everything is working great. And then we were discovering multiple different things for multiple different shows like materials not available or materials weren't something we can up res. Or for different reasons they are just as much as we wanted to make a Blu-ray, we are just not able to to. Those titles will not have Blu-rays currently. Maybe something magical will happen down the road. But for right now, they are on hiatus...

Rather than cluster into an aged coming soon (for 3 series) thread, I thought it may be a good idea to do a new one instead.

The latest FUNimation Entertainment Anime Source - Blu-ray Edition now has this re-listed back on Coming Soon to Blu-ray. Previously it was listed under Great Blu-ray Title From FUNimation (as in it's available already).

Is a release really forthcoming after all this time? If not, why would they add this back to Coming Soon to Blu-ray?

You and me both. I'm also wondering about D Gray Man S1P2. That thing has had it's release date as "coming soon" over on rightstuf forever.

I traded in my DVDs originally when they had this listed as one of the original batch of shows to come out on Blu-ray, so it is good to see the release back to having some signs of life.

I'm wondering if the same subtitle options as the DVDs had will be made available. The DVDs had angle button options for Japanese or English, & Funimation even gave the Japanese seiyuu credits in English.

The same on BD & I'll buy. Not, & no sale.

The alternate angles won't be used. They stopped that years ago with their DVDs and have never done it for blu-ray. You'll get English credits and you'll like it!

Hopefully the credits will be updated to include both voice casts, not to mention corrected for the first 3-4 volumes worth of episodes.

If this BD even sees the light of day, that is.

Yeah like the others I will believe it when I see it. I too saw it listed on the back of the one that came with my BD copy of RIN. The only thing I wonder is how good will they be able to make what have to be an obvious upscale look? I mean it's a pretty old series at this point. I remember how poor the audio quality was on the original DVD releases so a TRUEHD lossless audio track would be good enough to sell me on the BD.

Blue Gender is still listed as "coming soon" even on the inserts of Funi's latest titles like Eden, right along with other titles like Black Cat, so you have to wonder if the PR dept just throws anything they ever had planned on that list or it's really still planned. At this point you'd think it would have been cancelled.
